  • 141. What Does it Mean to Be a Christian?
    2025/06/03

What does it truly mean to be a Christian? It's a deceptively simple question that quickly cuts to the heart of faith. Many people identify as Christians while missing the essence of what following Jesus entails.

The Coffee Talk series tackles this fundamental question by stripping away cultural Christianity to reveal authentic faith. The word "Christian" itself means "follower of Christ" – not just someone who intellectually agrees with certain doctrines or attends religious services. True Christianity begins with believing Jesus is God's Son who died and rose again, but extends far beyond mental assent into daily surrender and obedience. It's about direction rather than perfection.

When someone genuinely follows Jesus, they experience spiritual rebirth. This isn't mere behavior modification but heart transformation where the Holy Spirit creates something entirely new within. A Christian repents of sin, pursues holiness, and walks by the Spirit rather than fleshly desires. They become connected to other believers as part of Christ's body, serving and growing together in community. Most importantly, authentic faith produces visible fruit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control developing over time.

Whether you've been a believer for years or are still searching, this episode invites you to examine what following Jesus truly means. Is your faith producing fruit or just words? Are you living as though Jesus is Lord or merely a helpful addition to your life? Join us for an honest conversation about moving beyond religious culture into genuine relationship with Christ. Share this episode with someone looking to deepen their faith journey, and connect with us on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube for more encouragement!

  • 140. Is the Bible the Word of God? Can We Trust Scripture Today?
    2025/05/27

    Send us a text

What if the most ancient book still holds the most relevant truths for today? Welcome to a candid exploration of the Bible's credibility and significance in our skeptical, noisy world.

We're diving straight into the challenging question many believers and seekers face: Is the Bible truly God's word, and can we trust it? This isn't just theological curiosity—it's the bedrock question that determines how we navigate life, faith, and truth in a world overflowing with competing voices.

The evidence might surprise you. From the remarkable manuscript preservation (over 5,800 Greek New Testament manuscripts) to the mathematical impossibility of Jesus fulfilling hundreds of specific Old Testament prophecies by chance, the Bible's reliability stands on solid historical ground. Consider how 40+ authors across three continents, spanning 1,500 years, produced a single, coherent narrative about God's redemptive plan through Jesus Christ. That's not coincidence—it's divine inspiration.

But reliability only matters if it's relevant. While TikTok therapists and trending podcasts offer fleeting wisdom, Scripture addresses the timeless questions at the core of our humanity: Who am I? What's my purpose? Where will I find true hope? As Rebecca shares, "You don't need a trending podcast to tell you how to live. You need the voice of the one who made you."

Whether you're questioning Scripture's authority, rediscovering its power, or seeking deeper understanding, this episode offers thoughtful insights without judgment. We conclude with four reflective questions to help you examine your relationship with the Bible and practical next steps for engaging with God's living word. Faith comes by hearing the word of Christ—will you listen?

  • 139. Are Demons Real? Understanding the Unseen Battle at Work Today
    2025/05/20

    Send us a text

We explore the biblical reality of demons as active spiritual entities, not fictional metaphors, that work against God's people. Understanding their nature, tactics, and the authority believers have through Christ empowers us to recognize spiritual warfare without falling into fear.

    • Demons are the disembodied spirits of Nephilim seeking hosts to influence and oppress
    • Scripture repeatedly shows Jesus confronting and casting out demons throughout his ministry
    • Modern demonic activity often works through false teachings, fear, addiction, and entertainment glorifying darkness
    • Pharmakia (the Greek word for sorcery) connects substance use with opening spiritual doorways
    • Fascinating parallels exist between parasitic infections and demonic oppression
    • Born-again believers cannot be possessed but can still experience spiritual oppression
    • Christians have authority through Christ to resist demonic influence
    • Standing firm requires truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, God's Word and prayer

  • 138. The Truth About Satan—A Myth or a Real Enemy?
    2025/05/13

    Send us a text

The figure of Satan has been distorted by pop culture into a cartoonish villain with red horns and a pitchfork—a caricature that makes him easy to dismiss. But is this accurate? We cut through cultural misconceptions to reveal what Scripture actually teaches about our spiritual adversary.

Diving deep into biblical accounts from Genesis to Revelation, this Coffee Talk episode uncovers Satan's origin as a once-beautiful angelic being whose pride led to his fall. You'll discover the surprising truth about his continued access to heaven as an accuser until Christ's resurrection, and the connection between the mysterious "watchers" of Genesis 6, the Nephilim, and the origin of demonic spirits.

Most importantly, you'll learn why understanding Satan matters for your spiritual life. Far from appearing frightening, 2 Corinthians reveals he "masquerades as an angel of light," making his primary weapon deception rather than terror. From the Garden's subtle "Did God really say?" to today's false teachings and distractions, Satan's tactics haven't changed—but neither has their effectiveness when believers are unprepared.

The good news? We're not fighting for victory but from victory. Through Christ, Satan is already defeated. We unpack practical ways to stand firm through the armor of God, active resistance, and submission to God. You'll walk away with a sobering yet encouraging perspective: Satan is real and strategic, but in Christ, we have everything needed to stand against his schemes. This isn't about fear—it's about clarity, preparedness, and confidence in our victorious Savior. Share this episode with someone who needs this biblical perspective on spiritual warfare.

  • 137. Praying to Saints: Biblical or Unbiblical?
    2025/05/06

    Send us a text

Prayer stands as one of the most intimate expressions of faith, yet questions about who we should pray to remain deeply relevant for many Christians today. Should believers pray to saints, or is this practice more rooted in tradition than scripture?

The answer begins with understanding what a "saint" actually is according to the Bible. While Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions define saints as exceptionally holy individuals canonized after death, scripture presents a surprisingly different perspective. Throughout the New Testament, Paul addresses entire churches as "saints" – indicating that all believers in Christ hold this sacred designation. This revelation challenges many assumptions about sainthood and immediately reframes our understanding of prayer.

Scripture consistently presents Jesus Christ as our sole mediator before God. The powerful declaration in 1 Timothy 2:5 leaves little room for interpretation: "For there is one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus." This definitive statement, coupled with Jesus's own teaching on prayer directed to God the Father, establishes a clear biblical pattern. Rather than seeking intercession from saints, believers are encouraged to approach "God's throne of grace with confidence" (Hebrews 4:16) through Christ alone.

The Bible also contains explicit warnings against communicating with the dead, raising serious questions about the practice of praying to deceased saints. Instead, we're repeatedly encouraged to bring our prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving directly to God in every situation (Philippians 4:6). This direct access represents not just a theological position but a profound spiritual privilege – one that honors Christ's completed work and deepens our personal relationship with God.

Have you been wrestling with questions about prayer and intercession? Take time to explore what scripture actually teaches, and experience the freedom and confidence that comes from approaching God directly through Jesus Christ. If these reflections resonate with you, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Instagram or through the podcast contact form!

  • 136. Who Is Mary?
    2025/04/29

    Send us a text

Who was Mary, really? Beyond the nativity scenes and religious artwork, Scripture paints a portrait of an extraordinary yet fully human woman whose lineage, faith, and humility made her the perfect vessel for God's greatest gift to humanity.

This thought-provoking episode tackles one of Christianity's most debated topics: Mary's proper role in faith practice. We explore her direct descent from King David's royal line, fulfilling ancient prophecies about the Messiah's lineage. Through careful examination of both Matthew and Luke's genealogies, we uncover how Jesus' connection to David was secured both legally (through Joseph) and biologically (through Mary) – a divine orchestration centuries in the making.

Why did God choose this particular young woman from Nazareth? The answer lies not in perfection but in her remarkable willingness to surrender completely to God's plan despite facing potential shame and hardship. Her response – "I am the Lord's servant" – models the very faith we're all called to embody. Yet Scripture also reveals Mary's own acknowledgment of needing salvation, challenging traditions that elevate her beyond humanity.

The episode delicately addresses the theological tension between Catholic and Protestant perspectives, particularly regarding prayer and intercession. By returning to Scripture's clear teaching that "there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5), we find solid ground for honoring Mary's extraordinary example without directing worship or prayers toward her. Join us for this balanced, scripture-centered exploration that will deepen your understanding of Mary's significant yet properly contextualized role in Christianity. Share your thoughts with us on social media – we'd love to continue this important conversation together.

  • 135. Who is Jesus?
    2025/04/22

    Send us a text

Who is Jesus? No name has sparked more controversy, devotion, or division throughout human history. Some dismiss him as merely a good teacher or prophet, while others worship him as Lord and Savior. But beyond opinions, what does the evidence actually reveal?

Our journey through this question takes us beyond scripture to examine compelling historical records from non-Christian sources. Roman historians Tacitus and Pliny the Younger, along with Jewish historian Josephus, all document Jesus and the early Christian movement—providing powerful external validation for biblical accounts. Archaeological discoveries like the Pilate Stone and eyewitness testimonies recorded in the New Testament further establish Jesus as a real historical figure whose impact transformed the world.

Yet the evidence goes deeper. Hundreds of years before Jesus's birth, Old Testament prophets foresaw specific details about the coming Messiah—his virgin birth in Bethlehem, his suffering, and his mission to reconcile humanity with God. The mathematical probability of one person fulfilling even a handful of these prophecies is astronomically small, yet Jesus fulfilled them all. This convergence of historical, archaeological, and prophetic evidence presents us with a profound question: if Jesus truly is who he claimed to be, how should we respond?

The answer to "Who is Jesus?" isn't just theological—it's deeply personal. We can reject him, ignore him, or follow him as Lord. As you reflect on this Coffee Talk conversation, consider what your response will be to the one whom scripture declares is "the way, the truth, and the life." • 134. Who Is God?
    2025/04/15

    Send us a text

What if every breath you take whispers the name of God? In the premiere episode of our Coffee Talk series, we're tackling humanity's most profound question: Who is God? This isn't just theological theory—it's the foundation that shapes how we understand ourselves and navigate our world.

Diving into Scripture, we explore the fascinating paradox of God's character. How can someone be perfectly just while overflowing with mercy? We unpack this divine tension and how it finds its perfect resolution at the cross, where justice and mercy embrace without compromising either attribute.

Did you know God has a personal name? When Moses encountered the burning bush and asked who he should say sent him, God revealed himself as Yahweh—"I AM WHO I AM." This name, when pronounced without vowels, resembles the sound of breathing, suggesting that every breath connects us to our Creator. Some researchers have even noted intriguing connections between the structure of human DNA and the numerical values of YHWH in Hebrew—as if our very cellular makeup bears the signature of our Maker.

We also confront common misconceptions that distort our understanding of God: the distant creator who remains uninvolved, the harsh judge waiting for us to fail, or the cosmic genie expected to grant our wishes without relationship. Jesus offers the perfect corrective to these false images, showing us exactly what God is like—loving, compassionate, truthful, and self-sacrificing.

Understanding God accurately transforms everything: how we see ourselves, how we face uncertainty, and how we choose to live. If you're feeling distant from God, take heart—He isn't hiding. He's revealed Himself through Scripture, creation, Jesus, and the whispers of your own life experiences.
