    Philippians: Living the Jesus Story

Episode 3: Obstacles or Opportunities (Philippians 1:12-26)

How we respond to hard times and suffering is largely a matter of perspective. When Christ is the central reality of our lives, it’s possible to see opportunities and blessings where others only see obstacles.

    2026/10/07

Matt Haynes and Emily Welfare interview Brooklyn Howard, a PR Missionary to the people in Mozambique.

In this Portuguese speaking country, Brooklyn teaches English to the Makua-Metto people; one of the most unreached people groups in South-Eastern Africa. Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world, and this region is one of the poorest in the country. Teaching English by using the Bible as a textbook, the students not only learn English, but also learn about the Gospel. As a result of Brooklyn’s work, Muslim individuals are currently studying the Bible to learn about Jesus.

    Philippians: Living the Jesus Story

    Episode 2: Greetings (Philippians 1v1-11)

Gratitude and joy are often elusive. Yet, an attitude of gratitude was Paul’s secret to finding joy even while in a Roman prison. In Africa, there is a remarkable fruit known as the “taste berry.” It gets its name from what happens when you eat it: for several minutes afterward, everything you taste, even foods that are naturally sour or acidic, tastes sweet. The secret is a molecule in the fruit called miraculin, which binds to the taste buds on your tongue and temporarily changes the way they respond to acidity, causing sour foods to taste sweet. A spirit of gratitude is the “taste berry” of following Jesus. It changes the way we experience what is already in front of us. What might otherwise taste bitter, sour, or difficult can begin to take on a sweetness we could not see before.
