In Episode 7 of The Other Ireland I am joined by Irish artist and storyteller Steve Lally, whose passion for Irish folklore and the old storytelling traditions really comes through in our conversation.

What originally began as a discussion about the Púca, Ireland's shapeshifting trickster's, soon turned into something much broader.

It was a fascinating conversation, and a reminder that when you sit down with a storyteller, you never quite know where the stories will take you.

Episode 6 of The Other Ireland marks the first time I have gone out to record a group sharing their memories. McAuley Place is a residence for older people based in Naas, County Kildare. It is made up of 53 apartments.

This episode is the result of going up there and not knowing what to expect. It was just me and my handy recorder. To be a part of this group discussion was really something special.

Episode five of The Other Ireland podcast explores the banshee in Irish folklore with special guest, Irish historian and writer, Dr Gillian Kenny.

We discuss the origins of the banshee tradition, her connection to death and keening, how descriptions and beliefs have varied across Ireland, and why the banshee has so often been misunderstood in popular culture.

Gillian also shares some fascinating banshee accounts from her own family, as well as stories she has encountered through her research and talks.
