THE NEW SCIENCE
The New Science, by Giambattista Vico, is one of the foundational works of the philosophy of history and modern thought. First published in the eighteenth century, this monumental work presents an original approach to understanding the development of human societies, exploring how peoples create their institutions, laws, languages, myths, and traditions throughout history.
Combining philosophy, history, philology, and profound reflections on human nature, Vico develops his celebrated conception of historical cycles. He argues that civilizations pass through different stages of development and transformation, examining how imagination, religion, poetry, and social institutions shape collective consciousness. His ideas anticipated many later discussions about culture, historical development, and the evolution of human societies.
For readers interested in philosophy, history, literature, and political thought, The New Science offers a profound and remarkably insightful examination of the origins and transformation of civilizations. An essential work for anyone seeking to explore the foundations of modern historical thought and discover the extraordinary vision of one of the great philosophers of the early modern era.
