I wasn't going to come back, really. People in Millbrook have always loved a good story, but lately they don't even look at me when I mention Blackwood Forest. After I stepped away from the podcast, the town’s reaction doesn’t feel like gossip anymore. It feels like a warning, and it’s aimed straight at me.

So, I follow the one detail that keeps scratching at my brain: Jacob Springer, a reporter who tracked down former Blackwood logging crew workers and recorded their accounts. That trail leads to the Millbrook Historical Society and to a discovery that should make any investigative podcast listener sit up: the Springer interview tapes exist. A late-night diner conversation with a lifelong Millbrook logger cracks the story wide open with a 1978 shutdown, rumored cassette interviews about paranormal and strange events, and a name I never said out loud: the Hollow House....Oh and a flying corpse!!

A name on a page is easy to dismiss until you type it into Google and the screen stares back with an obituary. I went looking for “Clair Morgan” to prove the red binder is fiction, a prop, a prank, anything that would let us laugh and move on. Instead, I found a Claire Morgan who really died, unexpectedly, and the date lands exactly one week after the binder showed up at our door. It is almost certainly a coincidence. It still feels wrong.

From there, I stop reading ahead and return to Clair’s journal in real time, picking up on Day 124 as she leaves Firewatch Tower 1 and heads six miles east into Blackwood Forest. A creek appears where the map shows nothing. The woods go unnaturally quiet. Shapes move at the edge of her vision. Two unseen voices track her like they are pacing her steps. And just when the “no house” theory seems proven, the little girl in the yellow dress returns, unchanged, silent, and somehow guiding Claire off trail.

What Clair finds is the Hollow House, a three-story structure sitting in a clearing with no road, no driveway, and no explanation for how it was built or why it has not been reclaimed by the forest. Nearby, a newer trailer faces the house like a watch post, holding a 1978 logbook full of warnings about “them,” a bright flash, and instructions never to enter. Then something screams in the woods, and Clair realizes too late that she was being followed long before she ever saw the house.
