    Host Greg Madison

Happy to welcome Peter Cheung from Hong Kong to The Living Process. Peter first found Focusing during his PhD research and this led to Focusing training and eventually teaching Focusing in China. Peter and his wife built an NGO dedicated to teaching Focusing and the Satir method of family therapy. Peter talks about designing and refining their way of bringing Focusing to elderly caregivers and offering Focusing in these centres throughout Hong Kong by training social workers. He also describes the Final Chapter Project: “Rediscovering Meaning, Love and Hope in Life’s Final Chapter”. This fascinating project involves very evocative experiences and a structured life review informed by Focusing. They are conducting a one-year pilot project for this end-of-life/life-death project, and preparing a facilitator’s manual.

Presence in the Mindful Moment. Serge Prengel on The Living Process. Episode 52. Host Greg Madison

Delighted to welcome Serge Prengel to The Living Process. Serge talks about how he found Focusing many years ago in New York and how he calls Focusing a form of mindfulness which he terms PROACTIVE MINDFULNESS to distinguish it from other forms. We talk about this development, the struggle to be more mindful, and the importance of physicality in change processes. We also touch on the experience of a ‘shared field’, the interaction between people, conflict and how to accept it as a part of diversity, as well as neuroscience explanations for these practices.

  • 'May I Exist?' - Experiential-Existenital Psychotherapy
    2026/08/07

Episode 53 of The Living ProcessMay I Exist - First Experiential-Existential Study Day University of Leuven, Belgium. April 24, 2926.Panel Members: Evi Van Mierlo, Sofie Verdegem, Siebrecht Vanhooren and Greg Madison, hosted by: Ruth Marien. Day chaired by: Claude Missiaen. For me, Greg, it is odd to have a long-standing passion for this unique form of psychotherapy and to always feel like an existentialist at Focusing events and as a Focuser at existential events, never quite belonging to either world …. Chatting with Siebrecht many years ago at a conference, I found I finally had a fellow-traveller, and under his direction, now a whole Centre dedicated to this particular instance of FOT (Focusing Oriented Therapy). But of course Experiential-Existential Psychotherapy did not start with us. There were always a handful of therapists who cared about the spirit of existentialism in Gendlin's work and the need for experiential practice in existential therapy. We honour the wonderful work of Mia Leijssen, Germain Lietaer, and Les Todres as well as our close cousins in the world of person-centred counselling and existential-phenomenological therapy. • Biodecoding and Wholebody Focusing with Monica Gomez Galaz on The Living Process
    2026/05/29

The Living Process with guest, Monica Gomez Galez, hosted by Greg MadisonBiodecoding & Wholebody Focusing. Episode 49 Monica tells many fascinating stories about her Focusing journey and her life experiences. For example at her first Focusing event she shared a cigarette with a man outside, telling him that she thought these Focusing people are crazy. That man turned out to be Eugene Gendlin. Monica combines Biodecoding, a way of working with physical symptoms, with Wholebody Focusing. Each physical symptom points to a solution which returns the whole being to its balance. Through Biodecoding and Focusing she has a better understanding of her own Body History, and has been able to evolve her listening practice to include an awareness of biological function. These ideas are based on an approach by psychotherapists and researchers Christian Flèche, Dr. Ryke Gerd Hamer, Marc Fréchet, and others. • Wisdom Beyond Steps in Kabbalah and Focusing
    2026/04/27

Followup Episode with Dana Ganihar and Baruch Brenner. ... Wisdom Beyond Steps. Episode 47 of The Living Process with Greg Madison. Delighted to invite Dana and Baruch back for a followup conversation discussing their rich crossing of the Kabbalistic wisdom tradition with Focusing and Gendlin’s philosophy in A Process Model.

There was an alarm near the beginning so we had to pause the recording until it was safe to continue. Together we explore what we might be missing when we only use Focusing for a specific life situation. Dana and Baruch emphasise that Focusing also offers a pathway into something deeper about who we are as human beings, opening into the mystery of what life is.

They say ‘You are the carrying forward of life’ and this offers Focusing practice that transcends the interpersonal and psychological sphere. You will hear some divergence in our views, which I hope to be able to explore further!
