  • Annemarie Wensing, Tommaso Clemente, and Arjen Stam on clinical management of persistent low-level viremia in people on antiretroviral therapy
    2026/07/01

Some people on HIV treatment have a viral load that won't fully suppress. In this episode, we speak with Annemarie Wensing (University Medical Center Utrecht in The Netherlands and Witwatersrand University in South Africa), Aryen Stam (University Medical Center Utrecht) and Tomasso Clemente (IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Itally); authors of an international consensus published in The Lancet HIV, bringing together nearly 100 experts across six continents to tackle one of the least standardized challenges in HIV care: low-level viremia. What does the evidence actually say about risk? When should a clinician act? How to communicate a low-level viremia diagnosis to a patient? And what does this guidance mean for the people being treated in settings where resistance testing and second-line options are out of reach?

  • Esteban Martinez and Steven Grinspoon on non-communicable diseases and the REPRIEVE trial
    2026/04/29

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) increasingly represent a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among people with HIV. People with HIV are at high risk of developing NCDs, often at younger ages and more severely than people without HIV.

Esteban Martinez from the Hospital Clinic and University of Barcelona, and Steven Grinspoon from the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, join us to explore the importance of NCDs and how data from the REPRIEVE trial can help us understand and prevent the underlying causes increasing the risk of NCDs in people with HIV.
