  • Mitch Harris: Each Shot Matters Once
    2026/10/02

    In this episode of The Inner Scoreboard, I'm joined by Mitch Harris for a wide-ranging conversation about the mental side of performance.

    Mitch grew up playing AAA hockey in Peterborough before moving into cyclocross and off-road endurance cycling, eventually competing at the elite national level. Today, he works in executive leadership and development, coaches golfers on mental regulation and emotional resilience, and is the creator of Each Shot Matters Once, a mental skills assessment for golfers.

    We talk about what endurance sport can teach us about discomfort, emotional regulation, performing under pressure, and the difference between knowing a mental skill and actually being able to use it when it matters.

    We also explore the similarities between athletes and executives, the psychology of golf, leadership, identity, fatherhood, and what happens when the thing you're really good at is no longer available to you.

  • Adam Summers: A Physiotherapist Lens of Injury & Recovery
    2026/09/18

    An injury can change much more than an athlete's ability to play.

    In this episode of The Inner Scoreboard, I'm joined by Adam Summers, physiotherapist and co-founder of Pulse Physio & Performance in Peterborough, Ontario. Adam has worked extensively with athletes of various ages and sports, and brings a unique perspective on what it takes to recover; not just physically, but mentally.

    We talk about confidence, trust, pain, discomfort, and the challenge of knowing when to push and when to listen to your body. We also explore why two people with the same injury can have very different recovery experiences, and how someone's history can shape the way they respond to a setback.

    The conversation eventually moves beyond rehabilitation into something even bigger; identity.

    What happens when an injury means you may never return to the sport you love? How do you deal with the loss of an old goal? And how do you take the qualities that made that sport meaningful to you and find a new way to express them?

    It's a conversation about injury, recovery, identity, confidence, and finding a way forward when the path doesn't look the way you expected.

  • Dr Erin Ayala: When the Goals Change
    2026/09/04

    What happens when the goal you've been chasing changes along the way?

    In this episode of The Inner Scoreboard, I sit down with sport psychologist, mental performance consultant, and "endurance gremlin," Dr. Erin Ayala, to explore the mental side of endurance sport and the life lessons that come with it.

    Drawing from her own experiences in Ironman-distance triathlons and ultra-endurance events, Erin shares how she got started in endurance racing, why our goals often evolve throughout the journey, and how embracing change can lead to greater growth than simply crossing the finish line.

    We also discuss:

    • The psychology of endurance sport;

    • Goal setting—and knowing when to adjust your goals;

    • Identity beyond performance;

    • Accepting adversity as part of the process;

    • What endurance sports can teach all of us about resilience and personal growth.

    Whether you're an athlete, coach, clinician, or someone navigating change in your own life, this conversation offers practical insights into developing a healthier relationship with performance, identity, and the challenges we all face.
