The world of Thra with the Skeksis and the Mystics fighting over a Dark Crystal was a classic fantasy quest told thru Jim Henson's creative genius.  THE DARK CRYSTAL was derided early on but has gone on to become a cult classic. When it originally released, it was deemed too dark and not very kid friendly. Over time,  the film has developed a steady cult following and even had a recent sequel.
