  • The Monkey Vs. Hell of a Summer! Which Horror Comedy Actually Works?
    2025/06/19

    Send us a text

Chris and Jess dive into two of the latest horror comedies: The Monkey (2024), directed by Osgood Perkins and based on a short story by Stephen King, and Hell of a Summer, Finn Wolfhard's directorial debut. Both films bring wildly different energy to the genre: The Monkey leans into creepy, slow-burn tension with dark humor, while Hell of a Summer offers a stylized, campy twist on the classic teen slasher formula.

In this in-depth review, Chris and Jess break down what works (and what doesn’t) in each film, compare their tones, performances, and scares, and answer the question every horror fan asks: are these worth the rental price, or should you wait for streaming? If you love horror with a side of comedy and want to know which new release deserves your time (and money), this is the double-feature review for you.

  • Death of a Unicorn Movie Review - Do Unicorns Make Movie Magic? Nope!
    2025/05/22

    Send us a text

We just dropped our Death of a Unicorn review, and y’all… this horror movie tries to be a comedy, fantasy, satire, and kinda fumbles them all. We were pumped for Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, and magical healing unicorn blood (yes, really), but this film left us more confused than enchanted.

If you love weird horror comedies, this might still be your thing — but for us, Death of a Unicorn was more fizzle than sparkle.

The horror shows up late, the laughs feel forced, and the tone is all over the place. Still, we break down what worked (Anthony Carrigan, you're the king) and what totally didn’t in our latest horror comedy review on The Horror Comedy Hangout. 🩸🦄 Final rating: 2.5 out of 5 Screaming Smiles!
