  • Episode 5: Kathryn Millington
    2026/06/19

The Gobful is a (mostly) poetry podcast featuring conversations with poets and writers who have previously appeared as guest readers at the Gobshite Spoken Word Open Mic, held at The Golden Lion in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.

In this episode, we chat with Kathryn ‘Millie’ Millington, a poet, performer, and activist based in Sheffield. Millie founded and ran the poetry charity Nine Lives Poetry, creating a platform and stage for emerging local poets. She has shared performances with poets including Helen Mort, Michael Pedersen, Toria Garbutt, and Leyla Josephine. Her debut pamphlet, Imprint, received high praise from Benjamin Zephaniah, who said: “I have no words, because you've used them all.”

Our conversation explores Imprint and the deeply moving themes at the heart of the collection, including involuntary childlessness — an experience shaped by Millie’s own personal journey. We discuss the emotions, challenges, and often unspoken experiences surrounding the subject in a thoughtful and honest conversation.

If you’d like to get hold of a copy of Imprint, you can contact Millie directly via @milliethepoet. She is also very open to talking with anyone who has been affected by the issues explored in the episode.
