Brittany Martin, the South Carolina activist who was arrested at a protest following the police murder of George Floyd in 2020, has been released after serving years in prison. The S.C. Department of Corrections released Ms. Martin on November 27 2024, just in time to spend Thanksgiving with her husband and children.

A bifurcated system is a sentence that consists of a term of confinement in prison followed by a term of extended supervision under s. 302.113.

In Neicy's case the federal prison system held her for 30 years and also the State of Mississippi held for an additional 8 years.
