  • An Emo Album Review: MGK's Lost Americana... or just lost?
    2025/08/20

This week on The Emo Hour, Kati and Nani kick things off by sharing what's been making them extra emo lately—from some mild (but classic) existential spirals to a real-life 911 call that may have actually saved a grandma. Oh, and somehow... dirt clods? Yes, it’s a whole vibe.

Then the duo dives into the topic of the day: MGK's new album, Lost Americana. They break down the unconventional release strategy, the marketing buzz, and give their hot takes on a few standout tracks. The consensus? It’s fun, it’s catchy, it’s easy to play on repeat—but is it maybe too manufactured? Too borrowed? The girls aren’t sure, and they want to know what you think.

To wrap it up, they each share their favorite emo lyrics from the album—but let’s just say things get chaotic when Nani tries to dramatically read MGK’s rap lines. It's not Shakespeare, but it's something.

  • An Emo Album Review: Unannounced, Unfiltered, Unforgettable - Our Take on Hayley Williams’ Latest
    2025/08/13

On this week’s episode of The Emo Hour, Katie and Nani kick things off with their signature check-in: “What’s making you emo this week?” Nani recounts the wild and surprisingly fun journey of attending her 20-year high school reunion — awkward encounters, nostalgic throwbacks, and a few somewhat embarrassing moments. Meanwhile, Katie shares a poetic reflection on her recent camping trip, where she unplugged, lived in the moment, and found herself under a breathtaking night sky as the moon rose over a circle of friends.

From nostalgia to nocturnal vibes, the two segue into the emo main event: a deep-dive into Hayley Williams’ surprise drop of 17 new songs. Katie and Nani explore the unconventional release strategy and their genuine shock at the sheer volume and rawness of the material. They cover about half of the tracks — unpacking lyrics, moods, and themes — and reflect on the emotional depth and significance of Hayley’s latest work. Given the depth of these tracks, the pair is sure that they'll revisit this body of work in future episodes.

The two close out the episode sharing emo lyrics of the day from two of Hayley's new song. It's an episode you don't want to miss!

  • Google Lied About Warped Tour And Nothing Is Real
    2025/08/06

This week on The Emo Hour, Katie and Nani dive into a weekend full of sweat, sequins, and scandal (okay, just Google being wrong, but still). Katie recounts her epic softball tournament weekend—full of camaraderie, chaos, and barely surviving the last game. Meanwhile, Nani walks us through her weeks-in-the-making drag and cabaret night, hosted by the iconic Jessica L’Whor of Denver, and yes—it slayed.

Then the two get appropriately emo as they uncover the shocking truth that the first Warped Tour wasn’t in Boise (as Google wrongly claimed), but in Salt Lake City! Cue existential crisis. Katie also shares a quick review of Say the Quiet Part Out Loud by William Ramsey, a book of essays on 2000s emo that she calls a fun, bite-sized crash course in the genre’s messy glory.

They wrap up, as always, with their emo lyrics of the day—featuring lines from Billie Eilish and Bring Me The Horizon that'll make you want to cry and scream in your car (in the best way).

🖤 Tune in for the chaos, stay for the catharsis.
