  • Pete Kaliner Filling In On The Brett Winterble Show
    2025/08/25

Tune in here to this Monday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show!

With Brett out today, Pete Kaliner fills in by kicking off the program by talking about the recent fatal stabbing on a Charlotte Lynx light rail train and the troubling criminal history of the suspect. Kaliner breaks down the case involving 34-year-old Dick Carlos Brown, who is accused of murdering 23-year-old Irina Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee who fled her war-torn country in 2022. Brown has a long rap sheet spanning nearly two decades, with prior convictions and multiple recent arrests. Kaliner criticizes the justice system for allowing Brown to remain free despite clear signs of mental instability. He also notes the lack of response from city officials, especially in light of their push for a sales tax increase to fund more transit projects. Kaliner argues the city's focus should be on public safety first, highlighting a failure in leadership and priorities.

  • Cracker Barrel, NATO, And More On The Brett Winterble Show
    2025/08/22

Tune in here to this Friday edition of the Brett Winterble Show!

Brett kicks off the show with Pete Kaliner for this week’s Friday Hangover; they discuss everything from Cracker Barrel’s controversial logo change to the erosion of beauty in modern public art and architecture. With signature wit and sharp commentary, the two hosts riff on the idea of "art by explanation," criticizing the trend of abstract, government-funded art installations that lack immediate aesthetic value. The conversation also touches on branding absurdities, like the Cracker Barrel rebrand removing the iconic cracker and barrel imagery, sparking a comedic monologue from “Uncle Herschel.”

Later, Brett dives into the global implications of Europe’s fading military readiness, sharing sharp commentary from Steve Bannon on the continent’s lack of resources and political will to defend itself. Highlighting countries like Germany, the U.K., and France, Brett underscores how minimal enlistment rates, financial instability, and domestic unrest have left NATO allies ill-prepared to support Ukraine or deter Russian aggression. He references reports of massive Ukrainian casualties and questions the long-term viability of the West’s current strategy.
