  • $6.67 Million To Save $6.67 Million: The Astros Trade McCullers, Ronel Blanco Returns After 429 Days, and Álvarez Goes Deep Twice
    2026/07/22

Houston sent Lance McCullers Jr. and Colton Gordon to Milwaukee this week — a trade that had less to do with scouting reports and more to do with a calculator. We break down why Dana Brown is officially buying ahead of the deadline, why Yordan Álvarez isn't going anywhere despite the rumors, and the wild Monday night at Daikin Park where Ronel Blanco made his first start in 429 days while Peña and Álvarez stole the show. Plus the full farm system report, an org-wide injury update, and a prospect spotlight on a converted catcher with elite raw power. Astros, Space Cowboys, Hooks, Tourists, and Woodpeckers — all in one place, every Wednesday.

  • Yordan Alvarez Goes to the All-Star Game and Skips the Derby: Cam Smith's Futures Game and Will Bush's Path to Houston
    2026/07/15

The All-Star break gave us two things worth talking about. Yordan Álvarez earned his fourth American League All-Star selection and declined the Home Run Derby for the second straight year. And at the Futures Game in Philadelphia, Cam Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI on the biggest prospect stage of the year. Xavier Neyens was there too. The Astros universe had a good week in Philadelphia.

The bigger picture heading into the second half: Houston is 27-14 since May 21st — the best record in the American League over that stretch. The team that bottomed out eleven games under .500 is a legitimate contender. The break comes at exactly the right time.

Across the affiliates, the minor league week was shortened but the stories weren't. The system is moving.

Prospect Spotlight: Will Bush — making a quiet case that he belongs in a bigger conversation.

  • He Left the Car Running: Reynaldo Delgado, Yordan's Grand Slam, and the Astros Are the Hottest Team in the American League
    2026/07/01

Reynaldo Delgado got optioned to Triple-A on Monday. Got called right back up Tuesday when Jeremy Peña landed on the IL with a calf strain. The man barely had time to find the Sugar Land parking lot. That's not a transaction. That's a guy who left the car running.

The bigger story is what's happening to this team. The Astros are 22-14 since May 21st — the best record in the American League over that stretch — after bottoming out at eleven games under .500. Yordan Álvarez hit a bases-loaded grand slam Tuesday against Minnesota as part of a six-run fourth inning. Tatsuya Imai struck out ten without a walk against Detroit. Christian Walker walked off the Tigers in extra innings. Miguel Olla made his MLB debut out of the bullpen touching 97.

Prospect Spotlight: Lucas Spence — undrafted out of Southern Illinois Edwardsville, signed for $150,000, now the Astros' number ten overall prospect after hitting .447 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in eleven games at Double-A.
