  • Your Mum said...
    2025/04/11

    Alright shredders, grab a drink and settle in! Ollie and Tim are back (minus Jenny, who is definitely not dead this time, just famous and busy... probably).

    This week, the lads tackle:

    * The Universal Truth: Why does your mum always tell you that you look tired? Is there a more derailing comment known to humankind?

    * Influencers on Mud: Ollie kicks things off with a rant about ski influencers grinding down rocky, snowless slopes. Tim gets genuinely angry. Are they cool? (Spoiler: No). Is it like fingernails on a blackboard? (Spoiler: Yes).

    * Mayrhofen Musings: Tim's been hitting the surprisingly good snow in Mayrhofen and shares tales of:

    * The daredevil Penkenbahn lift – and the legendary (maybe?) story of why it has a bend in it (hint: it involves a bar).

    * Developing a sudden fear of chairlifts – sweaty palms included!

    * The slightly terrifying "call of the void" high above the ground.

    * Need for (Sideways) Speed: Tim straps on his board, points it downhill sideways, and clocks a frankly ludicrous 40.2 mph on his heel edge. Were his legs okay? Did anyone else witness this madness?

    * The Mayrhofen Birthday Curse: Is April 8th in Mayrhofen cursed for Tim's mate Gendle? Hear the tale of three birthdays, three injuries. Ouch.

    * NEWS TIME!

    * The Brits are BACK! A recap of the British Ski & Snowboard Champs returning to Mayrhofen after 6 years. Big up the organisers!

    * Meet Riley Sharp: The 10-YEAR-OLD prodigy who swept the slope style, big air, and rail jam titles. What's his coach's secret? (Maybe lawnmowers?).

    * Gutting News: Charlotte Banks' season ends early with a broken collarbone. Heal up fast, Charlotte!

    * World Champs Wrap: Quick thoughts on the World Champs, Jenny's apparently quite good commentary (don't tell her we said that), and Mia Brookes' awesome season.

    * MUST WATCH: Cody Bramble absolutely sent it at the Freeride World Tour final on the Bec des Rosses. Backflips in no-fall zones? Yes please. Link to watch Cody's insane run: CODY: https://www.freerideworldtour.com/news-videos/cody-bramwell-snowboard-men-winning-run-2025-yeti-xtreme-verbier-by-honda/

    * Late Season Shredding: Thinking of squeezing in one last trip? The glaciers are calling, and Tim reckons the snow could be good well into May. Stay tuned for tips next week!

    * URGENT PSA - APPLE PODCASTS: If you listen on Apple, PLEASE RESUBSCRIBE! Ollie did something clever (or possibly disastrous) and all our lovely reviews got deleted. Leave us a new one! Pretty please?

    Get In Touch!

    We want your mountain stories, especially the ones mocking Ollie.

    * Email: theaprespod@gmail.com

    * Insta: @theaprespod

    Subscribe, leave that (new) review, and tell your mates! Jenny might be back next week...

    Catch you on the flip side! Tim & Ollie

  • Chemmy Alcott: Smashed up shins and grooming slopes feat. Special Guest!
    2025/03/07

    Wow now, what’s this. Not one guest but TWO! Sure, one of them introduced themselves in a questionable way, but let’s gloss over that. You’ll be treated in this episode to the untameable energy of British ski legend and friend of the show, Chemmy Alcott and why she’s more than irritated at a price hike to watch skiing on TV.

    You’ll also hear from Tom Arthur, a groomer (piste basher driver) based out in Whistler Blackcomb. Tom reached out to us to “set the record straight” because we may or may not have said something about groomers. He did more than set the record straight though, as you’ll hear.

    This is an independent podcast. I’m doing this now while my daughter is screaming upstairs about not having the right pyjamas or something. Your support helps us keep this going, and more importantly, grow the podcast. Please consider dropping us a few quid. https://theapres.substack.com/subscribe

  • Chris Cracknell: The enemy has landed
    2025/02/28

    Uh oh, the enemy have crossed the podcast borders and arrived in our territory! Is this a hostile takeover? The only way to be sure is to take a listen to this absolutely CRACKnell episode with Thank U Snowboarding’s very own Chris Cracknell.

    Chris has been around in the UK scene for absolutely yonks. With original aspirations to turn pro, his time in the mountains took him from master chalet operator, to master DJ to master masterererer. It’ll make sense when you listen.

    Consider supporting this podcast by subscribing to our Substack. For just £3.50 a month you’ll be supporting an independent podcast championing UK winter sports.

  • Our first ever episode (NEVER HEARD BEFORE)
    2025/02/18

    We had an idea - and we made it. This was the first incarnation of The Après podcast - a pilot episode recorded at The Custard Factory in Birmingham, pre-covid when everything was done in person.

    There was no one better to kick things off than Jeremy Sladen, in an episode that has NEVER BEEN HEARD before.

    The format has morphed somewhat over the years. In this pilot episode, we were trying to get the likes of the BBC on board (or someone else with money). They didn’t of course, which in the long run worked out for the best. We quickly worked out that what we loved most about making the podcast was having a reason to get together once a week, have a chat and hopefully meet some likeminded people with something interesting to say.

    The Après will likely change again, we’re always up for mixing things up and trying new things, but this will always be where and how it started. Enjoy!

  • Truth Bombs with Truth Smith.
    2025/02/14

    Join Tim, Ollie, and Jenny for this bumper episode of The Après with none other than Canadian snowboarding phenomenon, Truth Smith. Truth dishes on everything from team dynamics and competition nerves to his love of tacos and his surprisingly philosophical approach to snowboarding. Plus, the gang debates boomers behaving badly, cheap ski holidays and some antartic discoveries.

  • James Corden did what to Jenny?
    2025/02/06

    Welcome to The Après! A DAY EARLY! Join Ollie, Tim, and Jenny for your weekly dose of snow sports and silliness. This week, find out who conquered the slopes and took home the gold, some singing, and Jenny tells the story of how James Corden flew a Jamaican bobsledder in from his home country just to say hello. Oh and listeners get in touch with stories from the mountains and travel tips and Tim reveals the name he says that sounds rude to Americans. Enjoy.

  • Q&A: Can you do the Olympics on a budget and what are poles for anyway?
    2025/01/31

    So we took a look in a mailbag and realised that there were quite a few messages that we had ignored - sorry if your was one of them. Well, in this ep we try and get through as many of your submissions as we can and it takes us from selling a board, to the Olympics and right through to debating the climate crisis.

    So go and grab a drink, sit back, relax and enjoy - oh, and please do get in touch - we'd love to share your stories on the pod theaprespod@gmail.com or @theaprespod on Mark Zuckerberg's portal of doom.

    Thanks!
