On today’s podcast, we will be following

up from Episode 1, where we talked about the colonials’ desire to get out from

underneath a monarchy, and we will be focusing on the notion of representation

within the government. Specifically - why have a representative government? Who

should represent our interests? Did we ever achieve adequate

representation? These are some of the questions we will try to answer here.

We are bumping this week’s planned podcast, where we were going to address the issues with a representative government, and use current events to take on one of the most divisive issues in this nation – guns. Why do we have them, who should have them, is there something we’re missing in the debate about guns? We’ll go through these questions and more on today’s podcast.

On today’s podcast, we will be talking about what is perhaps the most commonly cited reason for the American Revolution against Great Britain – taxes. Here’s a little fun fact for you: unjust taxes were only one tiny thing included way down on the list of grievances which are to be found in the Declaration of Independence. So why do we end up talking about taxes as such a big, important issue for the colonials? Tune in and find out!

A lot of discussion has been going on lately that revolves around the question of who gets counted when it comes to having rights, especially as it pertains to the rights of women and the unborn. In today’s podcast, we’ll take a swing at the historical relevance of who was granted rights, how access to rights changed over time in America, and where we are at today.

We had been ready to launch an entirely different podcast this week on the subject of taxes. But a recent news story has pre-empted that and today we will be talking about one of the issues that has caused a huge divide in America for the past fifty years: abortion.

On today’s podcast, we will be talking about the desire, held by the people who started this nation, to leave a familiar system of governance which was reliant on a monarchy, to entertain a modern variant of an old ideal.
