How else can we be saved outside of grace? "For by grace are you saved through faith" Ephesians 2:8 says. You think of grace as the vehicle that transports our salvation to us after repentance. God's grace is free to all men who come to believe in him and His son. Without grace it is impossible for us to be saved or to be able to please God. Understanding the vehicle of grace allows us to keep a humble heart. For grace allows us to live out the new creation life on a daily basis. The natural life operates in energy while the spiritual life operates out of powerful grace. Grace is also free. Sometimes when something is free we think that it is cheap or normal. However God's grace being free to all is an exclusive transformative gift given to every child of God so that they can become an heir in God's kingdom. Salvation doesn't come without repentance. Repentance is more than an apology, it is a change of heart, mind, and action. All of which should lead to ultimately a change of life. If repenting doesn't cause you to change your life in the opposite direction that you were going then you have yet to enter into salvation. Repentance should lead to a conversion. We see this in Acts 3:19. Being converted into the image and likeness of Christ is what will keep us from needing repentance constantly. Becoming like Jesus, living the new creation life, is how we live a sin free life. Finally, after being converted our sins will be blotted out. So only after you've repented and began the process of becoming like Jesus can your sins be wiped clean. Only after these steps can your sins not be counted against you and you receive a clean slate.

Have you heard the gospel? The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The gospel is God's power. The power of the gospel is the only thing that God gave us to come into salvation. When shared correctly it brings all sinners into becoming saints. In today's world we preach anything and everything except the gospel like politics, prosperity, blessing, love, and wealth. We have stopped preaching the gospel and it is why very few can really live the new creation life on a daily basis. Maybe the gospel we heard wasn't in its entirety so we ourselves cannot share it in its fullness. If you have heard the gospel, how have you shared it? Our shame or embarrassment for the truth of God's Word is what can blockade salvation for another. Have you heard the good news that has allowed God's power to save you? As you have accepted the gospel have you been able to share it with others without any shame or guilt about how they might act? All these are areas of study as we dive into the power of the gospel.

How is your faith? Faith is one of the most important things when it comes to salvation. In fact, salvation can only come by faith. Having faith in God is what solidifies ourselves as children of God. If we do not believe then we cannot be saved. If we do not continue to believe we will fall out of our relationship with God and into a life separated by Him. Faith is the substance of things that we cannot see, which means that we must first believe before we can see. Our salvation can only come if we trust in Christ, the mystery in us, to progressively grow. This aspect of salvation is critical for us to continue. Salvation is about continuing to believe because as soon as you lose faith you've lost your salvation.

We love to run to Romans 10 to talk about what it means to be saved. In this chapter we see many things that God's children were missing when it came to their salvation. One of them is knowledge. Salvation is supposed to bring us into a fuller knowledge of who God is to us. Another aspect of salvation that is shown here is God's purpose. One's salvation is almost useless to God if that person never figures out what God made them to do in the kingdom. In fact, the kingdom is suffering because many have not taken on their responsibility in the work of God. The last aspect that we see here is God's righteousness. Before we even get to the famous verse 9 & 10, we see that those who Paul was addressing were following their own ways instead of God's. If we refuse to follow and pursue God's righteousness, then we are stuck living out our own. These are critical aspect of salvation that we must have in order to become like Jesus.

Another component of the Christian salvation experience is being able to forsake all. In Mark 1:17 the disciples heed to the call of the Lord Jesus Christ and follow him. They only followed after they have forsaken all. If you don't forsake all then you can't be a follower. Jesus saved us so that we can forsake the old nature and step into the new life, but we have to choose to leave everything to follow Jesus. We have to hate father, mother, brother, sister, brother and even ourselves in order to follow Him. Anything we don't forsake will be what separates us from becoming like Jesus. This is what the children of Israel failed to do. They were totally taken care of by God but still never allowed God to become their guide and trust resulting in God being displeased with their lives. If we haven't left all to follow, we too will never please God!

Another aspect of the salvation experience is producing fruits of repentance. Seen in Matthew 3:8 John calls out the religious leaders who came to be baptized because they had come to try and blend in. Progressive salvation should cause us to change in behavior, heart, and mindset toward sin. It is this 'proving' that God was looking for when he called the children of Israel out of Egypt in Exodus 20. Another aspect of the salvation experience is having the fear of God. Having this reverent respect for Him is what keeps us from sinning. It should create an attitude where we would rather die than sin or disobey God. All of these components are critical in producing an authentic salvation that will ultimately leads us to becoming like Jesus. What is salvation? Now that we know that the purpose of salvation is to become like Jesus what does it mean to be saved? We see in Exodus that God saved the children of Israel out of oppression and bondage. In the same way God saves every willing person from the bondage of sin and the sin nature. To be saved requires a person to cry out to God, asking Him to come into their lives. A total surrender is needed in order for God to quicken a life, making their spirit alive. Lastly, salvation is the first requirement of becoming a Christian, but it is not a means to an end. In fact, after being saved a believer is required to come into the making process called discipleship. Discipleship is the process of becoming like Jesus. In discipleship a believer learns to become like Jesus from another believer who is also in discipleship, becoming like Jesus, in order to see with their own eyes how the new creation life is to be lived.
