Paragraph about the Podcast, what the episodes will entail
Take Your Medicine is a podcast about the state of healthcare in the United States of America. It is a podcast for physicians who are disillusioned with the current way they have to practice medicine. It's also for any medical professional who sees that the system of healthcare in our country is flawed and who feels unseen and unappreciated by the executives and business leaders in charge of their places of work. And its for all of us who have been patients receiving medical treatment, who have felt like the care we received is not adequate or that the people treating us viewed us as a number or a product on an assembly line instead of a human being. The practice of medicine is on a trajectory towards a disparate, expensive, and substandard level of medical care for the average American, and this podcast will delve into why that is.
Dr. Philip York is a board certified orthopedic spine surgeon in Denver Colorado, who will use his experience to help navigate the current landscape of the practice of medicine in the United States of America. Why does it take so long to become a physician? Why are medical procedures so expensive? Why does a patient have to wait so long to receive specialized care? Do surgeons make a lot of money? What is a private equity buyout? Should I apply to medical school? Where did modern health insurance come from? How do I understand what I am being charged for as a patient? Is there any alternative to the way healthcare is administered today? These are just a few of the questions that will be discussed over the course of this podcast.
