  • Conversations with EX Muslim, feminist activist Zara Kay in Sweden
    2023/09/28

Zara Kay is an ex muslim feminist with a story to tell. Currently based in Sweden we talk about the latest Abaya bans in France and Niqab bans in Egypt and the cultural differences that separate the feminist movement today.

Zara runs Faithless Hijabi’s organisation. A charity organisation that assists ExMuslims who face threats to their life or wellbeing as a result of their apostasy from Islam. The charity provides mental health support with therapy sessions with partnered therapists and clinics in English or Arabic.

Small donations to the charity make a massive difference. Check out her organisation below.

Very happy to have Zara on the show, it really was an excellent discussion.

  • Iranian artist censored for her art against political Islam in Sweden: PT 3/3 with Sadaf Ahmadi
    2023/09/11

Sadaf Ahmadi says her art is not against Islam but political islam, but given the recent Quran burnings and terror threats in Sweden, curator of the culture centre in Borås wanted to cancel her exhibition. Her art was potentially seen as too provocative which could be a potential security threat.

Sadaf is not trying to be provocative but wants to express without restrictions the painful consequences of living under a totalitarian religious regime. Finally after national and local media coverage in Sweden and public pushback Sadaf can continue her full exhibition set for September and October. The opening of her exhibition is timed to commemorate the tragic death of Jina Mahsa Amini on September 16 2022. Jina Mahsa Amini was a 22 year old Kurdish woman who was taken into police custody for not wearing her hijab correctly. She was tortured and murdered for it. This sparked off a mass revolutionary movement against the Iranian regime that still continues today.

This is a three part interview where I begin with an introduction. Its three parts cause I'm shit at podcasting and I'm trying to get better. The important thing is that you listen to what Sadaf says and how she creates her art. Please take at look at her website and instagram and make it to Borås for the viewing.

  • Rubiales and Fake Feminism, misogyny in comedy, and Johnny and Amber with American Swedish Comedian Kathyrn Le Roux
    2023/09/09

Join me and my fellow comedian guest Kathryn LeRoux as we discuss various feminist issues and our take on the Swedish comedy scene.

Kathryn is an American actress, voice over artist and a seasoned stand up comedian on the Swedish comedy scene. She has appeared in various films and comedy sketches on tv. She has a hilarious comedy sketch on Swedish television on the legalisation of weed (absolutely love that sketch). She's a great friend and comedy colleague of mine and today we're talking on Luis Rubiales's fake feminism, the misogyny we encounter on the comedy scene and the Netflix documentary that came out last month on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Please like and share the podcast. Subscribe and if you like to support the work I do with interesting discussions on feminist related topics and consider swishing 076 272 5423

  • Denmark bans Quran burnings, men not women most likely to advocate for free speech, Salwan Momika's money problems
    2023/08/31

Short episode on the latest of Quran burnings in the Scandinavian bloc

    Denmark bans Quran burnings

Polling in Sweden shows that the Left Party and far right party Sweden Democrats are not in favour of the ban and men not women are more likely to be free speech advocates.

  • Quran Burnings in Sweden, a case for free speech?
    2023/08/20

Free speech has always fascinated me and now with a string of Quran burnings in Sweden we are faced with the same debate: Is this free speech or hate speech and where do we draw the line. Sweden is facing the wrath of the arab world and could buckle and ban the burning of religious books.

But free speech isn’t t just important to a handful of rightwing nazi jerks but its a principle that we must all protect and fight for.

Has anyone heard of the Iranian Danish artist Firoozeh Bazrafkan? She ripped up and shredded the Quran on youtube two weeks ago. She did that in protest to what is happening to Iranian and Kurdish women. Are we going to silence her? Are her actions also hate speech and islamphobic?
