Australian comedian Aidan Jones has been sober since 2019 - on reflection, he’s realised he quit the moment he realised that it was a legitimate option! Join him as he sits down with comedians from Australia and around the world to chat life and tell stories over a new alcohol-free drink every week. Together we will remind ourselves that whether you drink, you’re sober, or whatever it is you do with your life: you always have a choice.Copyright 2023 All rights reserved. 社会科学

  • Ep 11 - Lucy Bloom Crashed Her Motorbike and Spent A Year in Hospital
    2023/07/26

Lucy Bloom is a published author and international keynote speaker who lives in Sydney. When she was 18 she had a massive motorcycle accident on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and spent a year in hospital, and it forced her to grow up fast. While all her friends were out partying, she was starting her own advertising agency, and marrying a man from the nightclub she worked at. She’s recently given up drinking for the third time, and we spoke about Holly Whittaker’s book ‘Quit Like A Woman’ that has helped her think about her choice in terms that feel more related to her. Lucy is super funny, and one of the smartest people I know. Enjoy!

  • Ep 10 - Jason Mack Interviewed One of the Guys From Slipknot!
    2023/07/19

Jason Mack is a podcaster and music promoter based in Melbourne. His podcast ‘What We Did On The Weekend’ with Mathew Burgess has grown in the last few years to be one of the focal points of the Australian heavy music scene. In 2021 after some heavy drinking during lockdown and a scary moment k-holing live on Twitch, he decided to cut out alcohol for good. We sat down in his apartment in Brunswick to talk about that decision, as well as his life growing up in Frankston, and leaving it all behind to move to Melbourne at 30. This was one of my favourite conversations so far, even just for the goss about The Tote. Enjoy!

  • Ep 9 - Michael Shafar is Jewish (and he’s ready to talk about it!)
    2023/07/12

Michael Shafar is a stand up comedian from Melbourne, currently based in London. We’ve known each other and been friends for years, but I still didn’t really know that much about Shaf’s family life other than the fact that he’s Jewish. In this wonderful conversation he told me some stories about his grandparents surviving Nazi death camps in WWII, and explained various elements of Jewish culture and community to me. I’ve been thinking a lot about the way that I used to use drinking to deal with difficult moments/feelings in life, and how that is definitely something I learned from the wider culture I was raised in. The Jewish culture that Shafar is a part of doesn’t quite see alcohol in the same way, and we spoke about how different cultures have different responses to life’s hardships, and where that might come from. Super interesting chats with an incredibly smart and funny man who I’m glad to call a friend. Enjoy!
