  • Sticky Jazz Interview Holly Cole
    2025/05/05

Holly Cole is one of the greatest female jazz vocalists, hailing from The Great White North (Canada), she has constantly delivered the music that wraps my soul up in the emotions of the moment.

Holly has done a whole album of Tom Waits covers (Temptation), or some dark vibes jazz getting through heartbreak and longing (Dark Dear Heart), and various collections between then and now. Now she has released a moon themed album "Dark Moon" where she clashes with classics, and every song on this album will make you think of feelings you had, inspired by the moon.

There is so much to enjoy and think about in her catalog, and we covered a lot of history on this episode.

Enjoy some Holly Cole at the links below.

  • Sticky Jazz Interview Toni Tennille
    2025/05/04

I'm not sure I need to put much of an intro for this one but Toni Tennille [http://www.tonitennille.net/] is one the longest living careear pop stars. She was the only "Beach Girl" (they had her as a famale focalist) and she did so much great pop work in the 70s and 80s with her husbad "Captain" Daryl Dragon. Inspiring everyone from Olivia Newton John, to Sheena Easton, and too many other names to mention, she has solidified her name in pop music history. She recently came out of retirement to perform in the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center production of the classic musical "Hello Dolly!". We talked about the musical, the music, and even Pink Floyd. (She sang backup for them too). A full circle moment, go check out her show if you get the chance.Hello Dolly promo [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_-rO7N1yc8]The Yavapai College Performing Arts Center is located at 1100 E. • Sticky Jazz Interview Chuck Panozzo / STYX
    2025/05/04

Charles (Chuck) Panozzo is one of founding members of the historical rock band "STYX" with his twin brother John. STYX has been maing music for 50 years, and created some of the most legendary ballads and anthems in rock since the 70s. Chuck is a phenomenal bassist that managed to keep this band straddling the fine line with metal guitar, and synthesisers. With multi platinum albums "Pieces of Eight", "Paradise Theater" and "The Grand Illusion", the new album "Crash of the Crown [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nZ_K4nA32nJHAdl8W3dAOe0nt7O5OHJ_0] " was recorded like so many other albums in covid, unconventionally. This album is just as good as previous work and sounds current.Chuck came out as gay and supporting AIDS awareness, he has survived AIDS, two bouts with cancer, and even the fallout from the STYX Album "Kilroy Was Here". At age 72 he has an incredible wisdom and wit about his life, and the music he has made that I have spent countless hours enjoying. This is a pretty epic conversation for me, and I managed enough will power to not ask him about his guitars.website [https://styxworld.com/] facebook [https://www.facebook.com/styxtheband] twitter [http://www.twitter.com/STYXtheband] itunes [https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/styx/id132659] #styxtheband #chuckpanozzo This program may contain copyrighted material which has not always been authorized by the copyright owners. • Sticky Jazz interview Marco Pirroni
    2025/05/04

There are "Legends" in rock & roll, great guitarists leaving massive legacies, then you have Marco Pirroni, beginning his career by getting booted from Siouxsie & The Banshees TWICE, and then getting roped into playing guitar for Adam Ant, then going on to play with Sinead O'connor for most of her career, you see a guy like Marco having done it all. His guitar work is monumental, as I have probably got everything he ever recorded onto vinyl, and then CD, then MP3, his guitar collection is just as legendary. We talked about his guitars, the stories you never heard on the back end, and so much more. He told me he honestly got into playing, and had no future plans, just wanting to play, and well, he did really good for himself. Personal conversations about Adam Ant, Sinead O'Connor, and even Sid Vicious, there was just a lot to cover and he made it worth while. • Sticky Jazz interview Danny Saber part II
    2025/05/04

Danny Saber has been "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" for so many albums and musical projects we have all enjoyed for the last 40 years. He started young, and made some fantastic contributions to rock & roll over the years. This episode (Part 2, go look at last week's and tell me what ya think) Danny tells us about working with David Bowie, Alice Cooper (and golf) and even U2. Just google his name on spotify or youtube and you will have a great rabbit hole to dive into. youtube [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4P5If1LwyA8McTDqBn7Vxg]] allmusic [https://www.allmusic.com/artist/danny-saber-mn0000955557#credits]#petergabriel #realworldstudios #stoneroses #shaunryder #blackgrape #gedlynch #garbage #propergrounds #rageagainstthemachine #tommorello #blur #oasis #bluepearl #durgamcbroom #killingjoke #perryfarrell #nickduerden #inxs #joestrummer #michaelhutchence #juliantemple #andygil #gangoffour #seal#alicecooper #golf #ozzyosbourne #U2 #davidbowie #wimwenders #rollingstones #tboneburnette #milliondollarhotel #daniellanois #allyoucanleavebehind #naomicampbell #brianeno #gavinfriday #flea #rhcp #garbagetheband #toneloc #reevesgabrel #millajovovich #frankblack #thepixies #marylinmanson

  • Sticky Jazz Interview Cam Cole
    2025/05/04

Cam Cole was a world famous "Busker" (Street Performer) but from his nomadic lifestyle, he had no idea of his millions of followers, as he was performing on the streets in England. While performing his own guitar blues and pedal drumkit "One Man Band" his music reached people in the strangest places. He decided to document his first tour of America, and is deep south blues pilgrimage. In his movie "American Mileage" you get to see him playing with some of the greatest blues musicians, with his own guitars, and blowing audiences out of the water with his raw performances. I got to interview Cam Cole, and Tim Hardiman (The Filmmaker) about the experience. We talked about the film, the music, the people, and how music can bring so many people together in ways no one imagined. Check out the film "American Mileage" and Cam's work, you will be more than impressed. For fans of Ry Cooder, Muddy Waters.. • Sticky Jazz Interview OMD
    2025/05/04

We all know Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark, or OMD for the brevity, as one of those New Wave Synth bands that has been around for ever, and indeed they have. Topping 40 plus years of making deeply powerful synth pop, they have been at it again with this work that began during covid, and culminated in the masterpiece "Bauhaus Staircase". This is a great piece, that is full of all the philosophy and discussion about the human race, that only one could achieve through a concept of the practicality of the architecture of "Bauhaus" and it's art, and how the human race might just function around said artistic philosophy. I spoke to Andy McCluskey the singer for OMD about this album, how it came to be, what the inspiration was for it and how they see the concepts helping mankind. In short, it was a seriously geeky conversation, but not just for art and philosophy fans, it was also great for music fans in general. The album comes out on October 27th 2023, and it is worth the wait, I play a track from it on this episode. website [https://omd.uk.com/] youtube [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGt81JgXy5FiQUml-nqePKw?feature=gws_kp_artist&feature=gws_kp_artist] spotify [https://open.spotify.com/artist/7wJ9NwdRWtN92NunmXuwBk?autoplay=true]#omd #bauhausstairase #joydivision #orchestralmaneuversinthedark #newwave #80ssynth #andymccluskey

  • Sticky Jazz Interview Dexys / Kevin Rowland
    2025/05/04

We all remember Dexys Midnight Runners in the early 80s with "Come On Eileen" as an epic tune that you always smile when it comes across the airwaves on the nostalgia station. Dexys (the current name) have been making music for 40 years, and if you missed out on it, there was some wonderful music made by these guys. There was a moment when Kevin Rowland was trying to make some changes in his live and get sober, that some major changes happened in his image and his approach to things. With the release of an album "My Beauty" that had him dressed in some fine women's attire, he went on to embrace his "Sexy Feminine" side. The press wasn't very kind to him, and somehow took more of an issue with it, and so much was lost there than what the music had to offer. I have been a fan of all of the music, and didn't really think much of what the point was that Kevin Rowland was trying to make, until now. Dexys has released an album called "The Feminine Divine", and there is so much in this album you will have to go through it several times. It is a musical "Fiction" presentation of Kevin's journey out of toxic masculinity, and finding his whole self. Nothing wrong with that, I bless anyone with the kudos to make it that far and in one piece. Enjoy #kevinrowland #dexys #dexysmidnightrunners #toxicmasculinity #gonzomusicjournalism
