    Tim Graveney - Ethics and Compliance Officer

    Tim is the Ethics and Compliance Officer and Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for HCA UK, which is an independent sector healthcare provider and hospital operator based in Nashville, but with several well-known hospitals in London and Manchester, including The Portland, The Princess Grace Hospital and Joint Ventures with the NHS at University College Hospital in London, and The Christie in Manchester. He is a compliance professional with over 25 years’ experience in the financial services and healthcare sectors, and voluntary experience in education and sport.

    Prior to joining HCA, Tim worked for nearly 20 years at Deloitte, where he was the UK member firm’s Director of Ethics with responsibility for maintaining the Ethics programme designed by other fabulous friends of Steps such as Anita Aul, now the Ethics Partner at Deloitte. At HCA, he has built the ethics and compliance program in London based on the values, mission, and policies of an outstanding Ethics and Compliance programme built by HCA in Nashville. In particular, Tim leads in the field of promoting Speaking Up (which is the name given to a suite of interventions – including a team of 50 Speak Up Champions across HCA UK hospitals – which are together designed to help staff talk about concerns before they become problems).

    In his spare time (though he claims he is not aware of any) Tim coaches cricket and football, and also watches his sons play American football with a mixture of pride and trepidation. And no, he can’t line dance and hasn’t met Dolly Parton - but claims to know where she lives…

    On this episode we’re discussing how our mental health can be affected during challenging times, and skills needed to support our resilience. There are a lot of challenges in the world today, from shifting political landscapes, to the cost of living, to feeling isolated while working remotely. Anyone of us can suffer from poor mental health and often we don’t even recognize when our mental health may be on the decline. Joining us on this episode is Laura Rosenthal, the owner of MAPS Training, a consultancy that partners with organizations to develop Mental Health First Aiders and managers and leaders to support their teams during periods of poor mental health.

    Laura Rosenthal – Owner of Maps-Training

    Laura is an award-winning Training & Development professional, with 23 years of experience as a Training Manager in the pharmaceutical industry, and over 30 years in the training sector as a whole. For the past 9 years she has worked as an external training consultant across a variety of business sectors including banking and construction, as well as healthcare.

    Laura now spends most of her time training concepts in mental health support and emotional resilience training. She is an accredited instructor member of MHFA England, approved to deliver their mental health first aid courses, and her knowledge and training experience covers numerous mental health therapy areas including depression, anxiety, psychosis, schizophrenia and alcohol dependency. This, along with her natural empathy and many years of training in communication skills and coaching skills, lends itself to exceptional mental health and resilience training from her.

    As well as training in communication and coaching skills, Laura is an ILM level 3 accredited coach and a certified NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) Practitioner.

    Evelyn is a bilingual, bi-cultural US born, cis gendered afro-latina with chocolate brown skin tone and curly brown hair. She is the proud daughter of hard working, non-english speaking immigrant citizens who have lived in the United States for over 60 years. She began her career at the New York City Mayor’s office for Children and Families where she established a coalition of non-profit organizations dedicated to fostering social justice activism. She has been recognized by the Association of Latino Professionals of America and by People Magazine En Español as one of the 25 Most Powerful Latinas. Evelyn lives in Central New Jersey with her husband of 23 years, Luis, and their 17 year old child Fern.
