In the late 1950s, a wild theft took place in Nepal. Funded by a Texas oil baron, a cryptozoologist snuck into a Tibetan monastery and stole the finger of a mummified yeti hand. Using an elaborate network of connections, the finger found its way from cryptozoologists to actors to scientists, before finally landing in the lap of the Zoological Society of London, where it was lost for decades.

Although the authenticity of the hand and finger are debatable, the story of the daring theft, and the colorful characters that concocted this scheme, are some of the most fascinating in the history of cryptozoology.
