  • Top 10... Women's downhillers with Britt Janyk
    2025/09/12

In the fourth episode of the top ten series, we welcomed Canadian World Cup downhill winner and ski racing commentator, Britt Janyk, to the show.

In the conversation, we discussed the dominant force of the 1970's with seven consecutive World Cup downhill titles and three World Championship golds, Annemarie Moser-Proll.

We also chatted about the changes in the length of women's careers with the likes of Federica Brignone and Lara Gut-Behrami currently racing well into their thirties.

There were two current stars that made Matt's, Alan's and Britt's lists. They are the fearless, 2018 Olympic champion, Sofia Goggia with the hosts giving their thoughts on a home Olympic crown in Cortina in February, and the legendary Lindsey Vonn. She produced an incredible comeback to hit 6th position in the St. Anton downhill in January. In the year she turns 41, Vonn too is looking to provide another incredible season, and Janyk shares her thoughts on the unforgettable achievements of the greatest Dowhiller ever.

We also asked Britt about her work with the fabulous Apex2100 project based in Tignes, France where she runs admissions. She also shares some of her broadcasting experiences from the last 10 years or so with Eurosport, OBS and FIS TV.

The incredible rivalry of the 1980's between Michela Figini and Maria Walliser was also a topic of conversation as the Swiss, pink helmeted "glamour girl" took on the teen sensation. Both of these legends made the final top ten list.

We also chatted about the present and future of the discipline with a lot of excitement to come in downhill competition.

I've been on commentary for the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team YouTube channel and will be again this week.

In the episode we analyse the National Championship results from Coronet Peak and the 1st of the New Zealand Cup races there.

The speed events have also begun in La Parva, Chile where we look at the main stories.

We also managed to catch-up with the Norwegian tech specialist, Eirik Hystad Solberg, who chatted to us following on from his National Championship slalom win at the start of the week.

Tune in for all that and much more.

  • Next Gen Power Couple: Sylvester-Davik & Bakkevig
    2025/08/29

In this special episode, brought to you by Ski Racing Media, Alan and I chatted with two of the brightest, young ski racers anywhere in Madeleine Sylvester-Davik and Rasmus Bakkevig.

We chatted about the impressive seasons that the Norwegian couple have enjoyed, both scoring their first World Cup points, in fact, both in the top twenty.

Rasmus discussed his incredible breakthrough in 2025, having been racing FIS races, mostly, until the new year before he hit the Europa Cup podium and won as well as a World Junior Championship silver and his first WC points on a magical day in Hafjell.

Madeleine and Rasmus both spoke about the extreme strength in depth of the Norwegian tech team, particularly with the next generation.

We also asked about their goals for the upcoming season where they both are hoping for more World Cup opportunities, potentially aiming for a place in the home World Cup finals.

We also finished with a couples quick-fire special where I asked them questions about who is better at certain things, for example, best slalom racer and best cook.
