This 1700s-era waterfront tavern is packed with ghost stories, folklore, and chilling firsthand encounters. If you’re into haunted restaurants with a side of history—and maybe a ghost in your glass—this one’s for you. Penn’s Tavern is no stranger to the supernatural. Many have seen the Woman in the Blue Dress gazing out from upstairs windows. Local legend suggests she may be the spirit of John Penn’s wife, who died in an upper room centuries ago. Then there’s the infamous Lady in Red, spotted descending the main staircase and wandering the dining area—rumored to have met a violent end on the property and possibly buried in the basement. Guests and staff alike have reported seeing a group of Civil War soldiers near the bar, sometimes gathered around a card game in the dining room. One of the tavern’s former owners, Buddy Baker, had countless ghostly run-ins—most famously triggering a blood-curdling scream from the Lady in Red after closing a window during a storm. And if you find yourself by the fireplace, don’t be surprised if you spot the ghost of a 1900s workman, still warming his hands after all these years. Haunted Penn’s Tavern is a must-see for paranormal enthusiasts, ghost hunters, and fans of local legends.
