We love to hear your thoughts. Tell us how you enjoyed the Podcast.
In our 27th Episode of Season 2, we are gonna talk about Swing Speed, does it really mean anything.
We now have tons of data on the swing of the hitters. Slow and short swings, swings that accelerate quickly, swings that accelerate much slower. Let’s take a look at some swings of some popular players:
- Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Yordan Alvarez
- These hitters have something in common. They are very efficient to the ball and have a high bat speed, that makes it possible to hit pitches out in front for power. BUT… this type of swing is also responsible for a higher K-rate as well.
- Juan Soto, Bobby Witt Jr., Gunnar Henderson
- This is the type of swing for consistency and efficiency. Making this swing a more complete hitter that can hit for average and power. Hitters in this group who struggle, likely tend to lose the feel.
- Kyle Tucker, Christian Yelich,
- Hitters in this group are probably the largest, players of “average” bat speed, swing length, swing acceleration, and time to contact. The hitters who find success here are generally good at getting up to speed quick and pulling the ball.
