Welcome to Salt of the Earth. This is a Christian podcast built around one verse, Matthew 5:13, where Jesus tells a crowd of ordinary people, you are the salt of the earth. Not try to be. Not aim to be. He says it like a fact.

Back then, salt was valuable. It preserved food before there were refrigerators, it brought out flavor, and it was even used as pay. That is actually where the word salary comes from. Salt worked quietly and changed everything around it just by being there.

But salt can also lose its flavor. It can still look like salt while the substance is gone. That is what this show is about: how we live as salt, and how we get our flavor back when we feel like we have lost it.

This one is for believers, and for anyone who feels like they have lost their salt and want it back. We will have honest conversations, and I cannot wait for you to meet the guests we are bringing in. So stay salty, my friends.

This is Salt of the Earth.

  • Can These Dry Bones Live Again? A Conversation with Daneilia Sparks
    2026/09/08

    What happens after salvation?

Most Christians know the moment they said yes to Jesus — but almost nobody talks about what comes next. In this episode, Spencer sits down with Daneilia, host of the Heaven2Humanity podcast, to go deep into the part of faith that rarely gets preached: sanctification.

Daneilia didn't grow up in church. Raised in Kingston, Jamaica by a hardworking mother who always spoke about God but never had time for Sunday mornings, she spent her early adulthood partying, searching for direction, and demanding that God prove His character before she'd follow Him. What started with questions turned into a radical, all-in surrender — and eventually, a podcast born from a vision of dry bones and a two-year-old note buried in her phone.

If you've ever felt stuck in the "in-between" of your faith — not a new believer, not a seasoned saint, just somewhere in the middle trying to figure it out — this conversation is for you.

  • When Faith Meets Mental Health: A Therapist Opens Up About Addiction, Shame & Grace
    2026/09/01

What happens when faith and therapy collide? In this episode of the Salt of the Earth Podcast, Spencer sits down with Kayla — a licensed therapist and social worker with 8 years of experience in both outpatient and psychiatric hospital settings — to talk about the real intersection of mental health and faith.

    They dive into:

    - The difference between a therapist, counselor, and social worker

    - How to not absorb your clients' pain

    - Whether prayer and therapy can coexist in a session

    - Breaking the cycle of shame-based accountability

    - What the church gets right (and wrong) about mental health

    - Why relapse doesn't mean someone is "too far gone"

    - The gift of suffering (Philippians 1:29)

    - And what to do when you're stuck in the middle of the struggle

Whether you're navigating anxiety, addiction, or just curious how a therapist brings God into the hardest conversations, this one's for you.

If this episode hit close to home, share it with someone who needs it.
