On August 1, 1976, at the German Grand Prix in Nurburgring, Niki Lauda’s formula 1 car crashed, and erupted into a ball of flames. Lauda was trapped and yet miraculously survived.

In 2013, Ron Howard’s film Rush released, centring around the 1976 F1 season, the rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt, and Lauda’s crash.

In today’s episode we explore the real dynamic between Lauda and Hunt, what happened during and after Lauda’s crash, and how much of Ron Howard’s depiction was true.
