  • 7. Homeschool Recap: January 2024 - Navigating the First Month
    2024/02/08

Welcome back to "Redeeming Our Homes," the podcast where we explore the joys and challenges of creating thriving learning environments at home. I'm your host, Christine, and today, I'm thrilled to share with you a homeschool recap from our first month of this enriching journey.

In this episode, titled "Homeschool Recap January 2024," we'll dive into the adjustments I've made to our homeschooling approach for both my five-year-old daughter and my two-year-old son. We've made some exciting curriculum changes, particularly in Bible studies, by choosing a more vibrant, children's Bible to captivate my daughter's imagination.

We're implementing the Sonlight homeschool program but with a personalized touch. I'm incorporating a 'morning basket' full of diverse learning activities to kickstart our days, adding a sense of routine and joy to our mornings. It's been a month of fine-tuning, from introducing a calendar for time awareness to shifting the pacing of our subjects like math and language arts to meet their progressing needs.

I've noticed my daughter's love for workbooks, and it's led to some happy surprises in her learning preferences. To foster this, I've invested in a variety of workbooks, including an adding and subtracting activity book and a drawing guide that promises to teach art in easy steps – perfect for nurturing her artistic talents. With a focus on a long-term homeschooling vision, I've also started to gather resources for future learning stages.

Aside from the home-based learning, I'm excited about the prospect of starting a play-based co-op for preschoolers in our area, blending social interaction with play, and further enriching our children's educational experience.

We've seen a shift towards more workbook-based learning, speeding through phonics activities, and reinforcing the importance of correct handwriting skills. I'm also sharing how this has reshaped our routine, allowing us to enjoy more Bible stories and read-aloud sessions in the evenings.

Join us as we dissect these changes, the lessons learned, and how we're continually adapting to ensure our children are not only learning but also thriving. Your input is invaluable, so please like, comment, and subscribe for more updates. It's time to get into the details of our homeschooling adventure – let's get started!
