• Leviticus 3
    2025/07/03

We have been looking at the instructions for making various types of offerings. Chp 1 was burnt offerings, chp 2 was grain offerings; this chapter is about fellowship or peace offerings and chp 4 will be sin offerings. That chapter will be a little more involved than the others leading up to it.

This is the shortest episode of this podcast so far. There will be a couple of chapters next week that make up for it. A lot of people start reading the Bible and don't make it through Leviticus so pace yourself, we'll get there together.

  • Matthew 27: Discussion
    2025/06/29

Yesterday we read through Matthew 27, this is the discussion. After listening to the chp 26 discussion, I realized how that could have been done better. So let's discuss the trial of Jesus and his crucifixion and burial. And that could include your thoughts and comments; up to you.

Here is a link to He Cannot Save Himself, a poem for Good Friday.

Peter returns the 30 pieces of silver; Pilate is amazed that Jesus will not respond to his accusers; the people demand Barabbas be released and Jesus crucified; Jesus is crucified between two thieves and buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathaea. Once again we are reading the text today and saving the discussion for tomorrow.

  • Matthew 26 Discussion
    2025/06/27

We read all 75 verses of Matthew 26 yesterday and did not try to do any more. Today we will discuss the text, the pronunciation of Caiaphas, talk about who Herod and Pilate were and do what I was professionally trained to do: teach history.

Tomorrow we will read Matthew 27 and do the same thing, save the discussion until the next day. As always the comments are open so if there is anything you feel was overlooked, or you wish to offer additional insight, you are more than welcome.

  • Matthew 26
    2025/06/26

Matthew 26 is a long chapter, weighing in at 75 verses. I considered splitting it roughly in half and spending two days on it but then I had another idea. Today I will read the chapter straight through. Tomorrow I will post my discussion of the text. Let's spend two days on this chapter and then two days on chapter 27, which is 65 verses. Chapter 28 is really short and about the resurrection, so that will be kind of like a day off and we can start Leviticus on July 1st. It works out great.
