 The Red Sox (68-57) were not able to pull off a series sweep over the Miami Marlins and lost, 5-3, in Sunday's series finale at Fenway Park. The Marlins hit 2 Home Runs in the Top of the 9th Inning. The first from Dane Myers tied the game at 3-3. The second from Jakob Marsee put the Marlins up by 2 runs. It's the Red Sox 2nd loss of the season (57-2) when leading after 8 Innings. -----Crochet Day: Garrett Crochet worked 7 innings of 1-run baseball against the Marlins in Sunday's finale. Crochet exited with a lead but ended up with a no-decision. Crochet retired 7 in a row to start before allowing a solo Home Run to Eric Wagaman in the 3rd. It was the only run allowed on the day by Crochet. It's the 13th time this season where Crochet allowed 0 or 1 runs in an outing. He walked 1 and struck out 8. The Marlins were 0-for-6 with Runners in Scoring Position against Crochet. ----- Sox at the Dish: The Sox managed only 1 base runner over the first 4 Innings against Marlins starter, Janson Junk. In the 4th, Wilyer Abreu hit a 2-run Home Run to right. The ball was initially caught by Dane Myers but after hitting the short wall the ball came out of his glove and went over the fence. The Sox got back-to-back Singles from Abreu and Romy Gonzalez in the 7th and Abraham Toro brough Abreu in with a Sacrifice Fly to make it 3-1. The Sox got the potential winning run at the plate with Carlos Narvaez in the Bottom of the 9th, but Anthony Bender got Narvaez on a fly out to end the game. -----Mayer News: Alex Cora announced that Marcelo Mayer will undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist. Mayer is expected to be ready to go at the start of Spring Training next February. -----#'s of the Night: --The Sox recorded their 14th consecutive sellout with a crowd of 35,931 for Sunday's finale against the Marlins. --The Red Sox have won 16 of 19 at home and 18 of 22. They are 25-7 over the Last 32.--Abreu has hit 21 of his 22 Homers vs. right-handed pitchers this season. 37 of his 39 Home Runs at the Big League level have come off righties. --The Sox have had 21 of their last 31 decided by 3 runs or less and 12 1-run games in that stretch.-----What's On Tap?: The Red Sox welcome in the Baltimore Orioles for a brief 2-game series that starts Monday night.
