• When AI Saves Time, Who Turns It into Value?
    2026/09/24

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

AI can save procurement teams time. But what happens to that time next?

In Episode 2 of Procurement at AI Speed, I look at the difference between releasing capacity and actually turning that capacity into a better business outcome.

Using an example from BCG’s research on technology procurement, I explore what can happen when AI makes an individual task faster but the wider procurement process — approvals, decisions, negotiation preparation and priorities — doesn’t change with it.

The episode asks a practical question:

If an AI initiative reports thousands of hours saved, what did those hours become?

I also explore why capacity value isn’t automatically financial ROI, and three things every significant AI use case should make clear:

    • Where will the freed-up time go? • Who owns the outcome? • What evidence will tell us it actually happened?

    The bigger question:

Who owns turning the time AI saves into an outcome we can actually see?

Procurement at AI Speed is a short practitioner-led series exploring Procurement × Commercial Judgement × AI.

  • If AI Does More of the Work, Where Does Procurement Create Value?
    2026/09/18

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

If AI can increasingly do the work, where should procurement people create value?

BCG modelling suggests that redesigning procurement around AI could free up as much as 60% of buyer capacity. But capacity on its own is not value. What matters is what procurement does with it.

In the first episode of Procurement at AI Speed, Zina Amir Moafi explores what AI-driven productivity means for procurement, strategic sourcing and commercial decision making.

If AI takes on more research, analysis, contract review, supplier comparison and process execution, the opportunity is not simply to make the same procurement processes faster.

It is to move more human capacity toward the decisions that can actually change commercial outcomes: challenging the problem, interpreting the analysis, understanding negotiating leverage, balancing risk and value, and building stronger supplier and stakeholder relationships.

Topics include AI in procurement, procurement transformation, strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, commercial judgement and buyer productivity.
