Elena Rybakina stunned Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping three-set thriller, while Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev delivered an electric four-set men’s final — reminding fans why tennis deserves its spotlight. Amid influencer buzz and pricey tickets, the tournament refocused on pure athletic drama, spotlighting rising American stars and a budding women’s rivalry. But with the U.S. Open clashing head-on with NFL Week 1, organizers are eyeing a bold fix: moving the men’s final to Monday to dodge football’s glare and give tennis its own moment in the sun.

Alexander Zverev just claimed his first U.S. Open title with a thrilling four-set win over Ben Shelton, capping off an extraordinary year that also included the French Open and a Wimbledon final appearance. Shelton, carrying historic hopes as the first American Grand Slam winner since 2003 and the first Black U.S. Open champ since Arthur Ashe, battled valiantly amid roaring support. Zverev delivered a classy post-match speech, even joking about Shelton’s girlfriend Trinity Rodman.
