Elena Rybakina stunned Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping three-set thriller, while Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev delivered an electric four-set men’s final — reminding fans why tennis deserves its spotlight. Amid influencer buzz and pricey tickets, the tournament refocused on pure athletic drama, spotlighting rising American stars and a budding women’s rivalry. But with the U.S. Open clashing head-on with NFL Week 1, organizers are eyeing a bold fix: moving the men’s final to Monday to dodge football’s glare and give tennis its own moment in the sun.

Alexander Zverev clinched his second Grand Slam title at the US Open with a commanding four-set win over Ben Shelton, thanks in large part to his blistering serve—broken just once all match. But what really sparked debate was Zverev’s seemingly endless second-serve routines, which stretched out play and drew criticism from Shelton and even rival Khachanov, despite being legal. Shelton called for rule changes to limit second-serve time, while Zverev defended his habits, claiming he’s not counting bounces and was simply waiting for crowd noise to subside—though he did receive a time violation in the final set. The controversy? Just another sign of the spotlight that comes with being a top-tier champion.

Alexander Zverev just claimed his second Grand Slam title at the US Open, defeating Ben Shelton in four sets with a dominant serve that Shelton barely broke once. But what really sparked debate was Zverev’s unusually long delays between points—especially on second serves—with no official time limit, frustrating fans and opponents alike. Shelton called for rule changes, while chair umpire issued a time violation in the final set for excessive ball bouncing—a move the crowd cheered. Fellow top player Karen Khachanov admitted it’s annoying but acknowledged the current rules are clear: too many bounces = penalty. Zverev insists he’s not counting or trying to prolong play, even saying he cut down on it before his semifinal. The controversy? Just another layer of being a superstar—and this one’s far from settled.

Alexander Zverev capped a triumphant year with his second Grand Slam title, defeating rising American star Ben Shelton in four sets at the US Open — a victory that ends a 24-year drought for U.S. men’s tennis and signals a new era of dominance for Zverev as he rises alongside Alcaraz and Sinner. Shelton, just 23 and bursting with potential, showed flashes of brilliance but couldn’t overcome Zverev’s clutch play.
