Paul says that Christ ascended to Heaven and then POURED out gifts to everyone in the “body of Christ” (read: all of His followers, past-present-and-future) so “build up” together into the full measure of Christ Himself (see Ephesians 4:11f.).

    In other words…

    1️⃣ We’re all gifted

    2️⃣ We’re all called

    ⭐️

The problem is that we often create a false dichotomy between who is called and who isn’t— between who does SACRED work and who does secular work.

    But…

… as Dan Miller reminds us (in his book 40 Days to the Work You Love)—

There is a Hebrew word, avodah, from which come both the words “work" and “worship." To the Hebrew man, his Thursday morning activities were just as much an expression of worship as being in the synagogue on the Sabbath.

Nothing in Scripture depicts the Christian life as divided into sacred and secular parts. Rather, it shows a unified life, one of wholeness, in which everything we do is service to God, including our daily work, whatever that may be.

This isn’t just a “spiritual concept,” this idea about work being connected to a deeper purpose. Webster’s dictionary (full disclosure: I looked this up online and not from an actual Webster’s book) defines work as "bodily or mental efforts exerted to do or make something; purposeful activity.”

    Work is—

    ✅ Purposeful

    ✅ Meaningful

    ✅ Intentional

Work adds value to everything around us, because work places the touch of the Creator somewhere in our world, even as it uses human instruments to do so.

    In fact…

    🥁🥁🥁

Colossians 3:17 tells us, “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.” Whereas it’s easy to assume this simply applies to church or religious activities, this verse reminds us that any activity we do should be performed as unto the Lord. Paul, who also write this verse, clarifies the reason: “Because it is the Lord God you are serving.”

  • Bonus | Is Jesus actually your high priest?
    2025/09/13

If Jesus is actually your high priest— the one whom you appeal to on behalf of your sins— then you’ve got a decision to make:

    You can—

1️⃣ Appeal to the Law and your self-righteousness

    OR—

2️⃣ Appeal to Jesus and HIS righteousness on your behalf…

    But…

You’ve got to make a choice.

    👇

    Here’s why:

Under the Old Testament Law, Jesus wasn’t qualified to be a priest. He’s of the tribe of Judah— not the tribe of Levi. And all of the priests (under the Law) come from the tribe of Levi (see Hebrews 7:11-8:4).

    So…

    🥁🥁🥁

If you access Jesus, you can’t access the Law. It’s OUT.

But, His gift is enacted on better promises AND a more robust gift of radical, unbalanced grace.

    ⭐️

In this talk, we go through a bit of intro information…

… and then we bring my friend Brandon Ball in, who’s just written a book ALL ABOUT grace.

    The book = Nailed It!

    Here’s the talk…

... where we talk about a FAR BETTER way that Jesus provides.

  • 6 | You might not need a miracle
    2025/09/10

About a decade ago, I found myself struggling with my health. Bad.

At 40 years old, I was overweight, out-of-shape, sluggish, and tolerated a lot of health issues that I just assumed were part of the natural aging process.

    Turns out, I was wrong.

    👇

The first word we see in the Bible for healing is iaomai— meaning “miraculous” and “instantaneous” healing.

This is how we most often envision Jesus healing. This word appears 30 times in the New Testament.

(See examples in Matthew 8:13, Mark 5:29, Luke 8:47, John 12:40.)

As I began losing weight— for purely cosmetic and personal reasons having nothing to do with my health— the health issues began to evaporate. Almost overnight.

That’s what led me to learn about a second word we see in the Bible that we OFTEN translate as healing: therapeuo.

The word means “to serve, to attend to, or to wait upon menially” and “to heal gradually over time with care” and “to teach how to be well.

This word appears 40 times in the Bible- a bit more than the instant cures we usually associate with miracles.

    (See Matthew 4:23-24, Mark 1:34, Mark 6:13, Luke 5:15, Acts 5:16, Acts 8:7, Revelation 22:2.)

    🤷‍♂️

In the Bible we see BOTH kinds of healing.

Understanding why different are present matters SO MUCH, because it shows us what’s accessible to us…

    👇

We have far more control over our health than we’ve been taught.

We’re not victims of the genome- as if some of us got a good shake at the DNA-lottery and others of us didn’t. Science is showing, more and more, that we have far more power than we thought...

And that’s the subject of this talk.

    2025/09/03

Advance is a resource (or, set of resources) developed over a few renditions of events, workshops, interactions, and more…

… to equip you to move forward from where you are to where you deeply desire to be in MULTIPLE areas of life.

    🚌

It started in an odd way…

… almost an after-thought to an event that was completely unrelated to what Advance became.

    👇

This is the long version of the story…

    AND—

A few tips as to how to practically navigate from where you are to where you’re designed to be.

    🔥

After a long series of stories and winding tales, listen for three tips—

    🥁🥁🥁

Tip 1 = Goals we set must work in the context of every area of life…

Or, to say it another way, goals set in isolation from all your other obligations and opportunities just don’t last.

    Tip 2 = Goals are practical…

We reach them by the incremental actions we do each day, many of them so small that we hardly notice them in the moment. Yet, step back months later— and years later— and you can hardly recognize where you are as compared to where you once were.

Tip 3 = Success in those goals = living up to YOUR God-given potential in each area of life— not someone else’s.

That means “success” looks different for each of us…

… and it ALSO affirms that we can be doing stellar in some areas while we struggle in others— neither negating the other.

    2025/08/21

We’re designed to explore and grow. The problem is that as we explore, we bump into pain.

    💔

As a result of pain, we create internal rules— often hidden from our conscious mind that cause us to self-protect going forward. Therein lies the problem—

👉 We “live out” of these rules (read: thought patterns), but we’re often not sure WHY we react the way we do in certain situations.

    😳

In the same way muscle memory creates “automatic” behaviors physically, so also does SOUL memory.

    👇

The takeaway: we may need a new set of rules. The patterns that served us well in the past might not work well going forward. In fact, they may hinder us….

Many times we SEE what we’ve been preconditioned to see…

    👀

Two stories in the Old Testament, 40 years apart, illustrate this.

    👇

Story 1– The 12 spies felt like grasshoppers compared to the giants in the promised land. Numbers 13-14

Story 2– 2 spies meet Rahab, who reveals the people of Jericho (the “giants”) have been “melting in fear” for 40 years— because they feared the children of Israel. Joshua 2

    🤷‍♂️

It happens all the time to us.

We we see things “incorrectly,” it causes us to—

👉 See OTHERS differently, such that we’re not able to receive from them or encourage them

👉 See OURSELVES differently, such that we’re not able to walk into our full purpose / passion

👉 See OUR SITUATION differently, such that we don’t see God’s resources and abundance around us…

Perhaps this is why so many verses in the Bible tell us to—

✅ Consider what we think and how we think (Proverbs 23:7)

✅ Recognize that God can do far more than we can think or imagine (Ephesians 3:19-20)

✅ Realize that we have the “mind” (read: imagination) of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)

✅ See that God has a grace-empowered destiny for us (Ephesians 2:8-10).

    And…

… to the point of the title…

Paul prays that the eyes of our heart / soul be PHOTIZO / photosynthesis (life-creating, life-giving).

  • 2 | The land in between
    2025/08/19

Maybe you find yourself in “liminal space,” that odd space where you haven’t quite left the past season YET you haven’t quite stepped into the next season, either.

You’re in the middle, on the threshold.

    🤷‍♂️

The Children of Israel learned that we often meet God in that space… the middle. For sure, we can EXTEND the stay, but we can’t “quicken” in, because there are certain things that can only be acquired in these wilderness spaces.

    That’s where the Israelites encountered—

    💥 God’s POWER

    🍞 God’s PROVISION

    🔥 God’s PRESENCE

In fact, some of them became so enamored with the wilderness they chose NOT to embrace their destiny and cross into the Promised Land.

When we cross over, though, we find that—

    💥 God’s POWER

    🍞 God’s PROVISION

    🔥 God’s PRESENCE

… it ALL GOES WITH US…

… even if the experience of it / how we encounter it all changes.

    So, pursue the PRESENCE…

If you’re experiencing a divine POSTPONEMENT, embrace it. God is doing something in you, with you…

If you’re experiencing self-imposed PROCRASTINATION, it may be time to make your next move…

  • 1 | The best time to plant a tree...
    2025/08/17

    A new podcast feed…

    … completely.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I almost didn’t do it— and paused before stepping into it— for a few reasons…

    👇

1️⃣ The “sunk cost” of LOTS of episodes on the previous…

… but, if you just keep pushing forward without stepping into the “new” (if / when you’re supposed to), you just find yourself serving a PROCESS rather than fulfilling your PURPOSE.

2️⃣ The straight-up question of “How much can I go ALL IN on this?”

… b/c we all have naysayers and negativity that we’ve been through (some of it well-deserved) AND that causes us to wonder if we’re even qualified to do the “next best thing” which means we PLAY IT SAFE.

    3️⃣ The surface one…

Am I too old to start something new?

    But…

You can’t— or shouldn’t— PAUSE the play you’re supposed to run.

About the title of this one…

There’s an ancient Chinese proverb that asks the question, “When’s the best time to plant a tree?”

    The answer…

The follow-up question goes something like this: “When’s the NEXT best time to plant the tree?”

    The answer…

    “Today.”
