Michael Pittman Jr. is trending toward missing Week Two against the Patriots after failing to practice all week — insiders say his foot injury doesn’t look good. If he sits, rookie Germie Bernard steps up opposite DK Metcalf, potentially thriving if Patriots CB Carlton Davis III also misses time. Bernard’s a flex or waiver target. Roman Wilson could see more slot targets, while Metcalf becomes the focal point of the passing game. Rodgers’ ceiling dips slightly with weather concerns, but he’ll lean on backups. Running backs Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle gain opportunities — Warren in short routes, Dowdle in carries. Tight end Pat Freiermuth also gets more looks, especially in the middle. Pittman’s absence creates openings — watch how these players respond under pressure.

Steelers’ star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is locked in a contract standoff that’s dragging into the 2026 season, with no other teams stepping in—suggesting his price tag or perceived value is too high. While Pittsburgh has historically splurged on elite QBs and made exceptions for stars like T.J. Watt and DK Metcalf, this deal seems to be hitting a wall. Complicating matters, the team’s unwritten rule against signing deals during the season remains in place, and with Porter already missing games, rumors swirl he may never play for Pittsburgh again. With fines looming and no resolution in sight, fans are watching as this saga unfolds week by week.

Joe Burrow insists he’s good to go despite being listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Houston, calling his back tightness “game soreness” and dismissing any talk of sitting out. With a history of injuries—including ACL tears, wrist issues, and turf toe—he’s no stranger to setbacks, but he’s ready to face the Steelers again. His recent win over Tampa Bay saw him throw for 250+ yards with a TD and an INT, while the Bengals’ defense forced four turnovers. Last year, JaMarr Chase shredded the Steelers for 16 catches, 160+ yards, and a TD—though they held him in check the second time around. With Burrow’s health still up in the air, this matchup could be pivotal.

Injury chaos looms as the Steelers and Patriots gear up for Week Two — Pittman Jr. and Fautanu questionable, Porter Jr. out for Pittsburgh; Jones and Davis III doubtful, Crownover ruled out for New England. Depth returns with Heyward and Washington back for the Steelers, while Spillane and Henderson look sharp for the Pats. Steelers’ Week Two showdown with the Patriots hangs in the balance as star WR Michael Pittman Jr. misses practice with a foot injury, raising serious doubts about his availability. If sidelined, rookies Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson could step up — especially since Pittman was the team’s top receiver in their high-octane Week One win against the Falcons. With the Steelers leaning heavily on the pass (40 attempts) under new coaching, facing New England’s stingy defense — which held its opponent to just 13 points — Pittman’s health is critical. Last year’s loss to the Patriots featured a stagnant offense and a defensive rally; this time, the Steelers need Pittman to be healthy if they hope to break through.

Steelers’ Joey Porter Jr. is officially out for Sunday’s game against the Patriots after a contract dispute over guaranteed money, despite being cleared from his back injury — a confusing timeline that saw him sidelined again after missing practice. His absence hits hard, especially facing tough QB Drake Maye, while teammates rally behind him. The Steelers also face key question marks with Michael Pittman Jr. and Troy Fautanu, adding pressure to an already shaky defensive lineup.

DK Metcalf’s shaky Week One performance—four catches for 40 yards on ten targets, plagued by drops and missed calls—is already behind him, as he vows to fix what he can control and keep moving forward. Despite frustrating penalties and uncalled defensive flags, Rodgers kept trusting him with deep shots, a sign of his value to the Steelers’ offense. With Metcalf averaging over 20 air yards per target, the team needs him to embrace those high-risk, high-reward opportunities—not retreat after one rough outing. His message? Frustration stays in the past; the work continues, because contenders don’t shy away from big plays.
