Join Socrates and his friend Phaedrus on a captivating stroll through ancient Athens, where they delve into the depths of love and the power of language—both spoken and written. In this profound dialogue from Plato, Phaedrus invites readers to reconsider the eloquent rhetoric of Lysias, juxtaposing it with a more idealized, Platonic understanding of love. This early act of literary critique resonates with modern thinkers like Jacques Derrida, opening the door to rich philosophical exploration. Experience a side of Socrates that’s not just wise but also charming and relatable—a pot-bellied ex-soldier passionately seeking Truth. (Introduction by Martin Geeson)
