  • Toxic Shock Syndrome Awareness & Prevention Feat. Amber Ingram
    2024/05/01
Amber was just like any other college student, grappling with midterm exams and the usual stress. Being athletic, she had been using tampons since she was twelve, fitting them into her active lifestyle seamlessly. It never crossed her mind that this little piece of cotton could put her life in jeopardy. Amber walked us through the days leading up to her diagnosis—feeling more tired than usual, losing her appetite, and dealing with what seemed like eternal dehydration. It all seemed like stress, right? Wrong.

Amber recounted her initial visit to urgent care where her symptoms were brushed off as nothing more than stress and tiredness by a doctor. It was eye-opening to hear how her symptoms weren’t taken seriously until she landed in the gynecologist's office, undergoing a painful examination that finally pointed to TSS. It's a stark reminder of how easily women's health issues are often overlooked but also how we have to slow down and listen to our bodies.
