Dr. Sam Shay - Genetics Testing

    FitGenesUSA.com

    DrSamShay.com

In this episode of Over 40 Fitness Hacks, I sit down with returning guest Dr. Sam Shay, Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and Western Hemisphere Director of FitGenes USA, to explore the latest advancements in genetic testing for health, fitness, and longevity. Building on our previous conversation about the "10 Pillars of Health," Dr. Shay explains why genetic testing provides the blueprint for making smarter decisions about nutrition, exercise, recovery, and biohacking.

Dr. Shay discusses how most genetic reports overwhelm people with hundreds of confusing data points, while FitGenes focuses on prioritizing the most actionable genes related to inflammation, mitochondrial function, detoxification, vitamin D metabolism, methylation, cardiovascular health, and fat metabolism. Instead of generating information overload, the goal is to provide clear lifestyle recommendations that have the greatest impact.

We also dive into one of the most fascinating aspects of the conversation: using genetics to determine your ideal diet. Dr. Shay explains how copy number analysis of the AMY1 gene can reveal whether your body is naturally better suited for a ketogenic, paleo, Mediterranean, or higher-carbohydrate diet. He shares how discovering his own genetic carb tolerance dramatically improved his energy, digestion, mood, and overall health after years of following the wrong eating plan.

Beyond nutrition, we discuss how genetics can guide exercise programming by identifying whether you're genetically predisposed for endurance or power training, your risk for exercise-induced inflammation, collagen strength, injury susceptibility, and recovery needs. Dr. Shay emphasizes that many people unknowingly overtrain simply because they're following popular fitness trends instead of training according to their genetic blueprint.

Dr. Shay also gives viewers an inside look at the redesigned FitGenes reports, showing how they summarize key recommendations on a single page—including ideal diet, top nutrient priorities, exercise type, recovery strategies, and food sensitivities—making the information practical for both practitioners and everyday users.

Throughout our discussion, we talk about why genetics should be one of the first investments for anyone interested in biohacking or longevity. Unlike other health metrics that change over time, your DNA never changes, making genetic testing a lifelong roadmap that can help guide future lab work, supplementation, nutrition, and training decisions.

If you're interested in personalized health optimization and want to stop guessing which diets, supplements, or exercise programs are right for you, this episode provides an excellent introduction to how genetic testing can help create a personalized blueprint for lifelong health and performance.

Podcast Summary: Brad Williams Interviews Adam, Developer of the Longevity World Cup

In this episode of Over 40 Fitness Hacks, Brad Williams sits down with Adam, the developer of the Longevity World Cup, to explore the emerging world of longevity, biological aging, and the idea of turning health optimization into a competitive sport.

Adam explains how his journey into longevity began after building and exiting a successful software company. Inspired by the idea that longevity could be the next major technological revolution, he began looking into the field and quickly realized there was a major problem: scientists still don't have an easy way to determine whether an anti-aging intervention is actually working without waiting decades to see whether people live longer.

That problem led Adam to a unique idea—treat longevity like a sport. The concept behind the Longevity World Cup is to create a competitive environment where people track their biological age and health markers, experiment with different interventions, and compete to improve their results. Adam believes that the people who perform best in this competition could become some of the earliest adopters of new longevity technologies, treatments, and strategies that actually work.

A major part of the conversation focuses on biological aging clocks and how they attempt to estimate a person's biological age based on health data. Brad discusses his experience with tools such as WHOOP and the growing popularity of biological-age measurements, while Adam explains the limitations of current approaches. He argues that simply determining how old someone "looks" based on their biomarkers isn't necessarily the same as measuring how healthy or resilient they actually are. Ideally, biological aging clocks should be connected to meaningful outcomes such as health, performance, and ultimately mortality.

Adam explains that this is one of the biggest challenges facing longevity research. Researchers need better biological aging clocks so they can determine whether an intervention is working without having to wait for people to die decades later. If scientists can develop reliable ways to measure biological aging, it could dramatically accelerate the pace of longevity research.

    Dr. Clint Phillips - Medici

In this episode of Over 40 Fitness Hacks, host Brad Williams sits down with Dr. Clint Phillips, founder of Medici Health, to discuss the future of personalized medicine, AI-driven health optimization, peptides, and preventative healthcare.

Dr. Phillips shares his deeply personal journey into longevity science, explaining how losing multiple family members at a young age inspired him to dedicate his career to helping people live longer, healthier lives. After building a successful chiropractic and rehabilitation practice in Aspen, Colorado, and later co-founding a medical second-opinion company following his daughter's stroke, he launched Medici Health with one mission: prevent disease before it starts.

The conversation dives into Medici's comprehensive annual health assessment, which collects over 400 health data points through advanced blood testing, DNA analysis, DEXA scans, vascular imaging, skin AI analysis, cancer screening, balance testing, and more. Rather than treating disease after it develops, Medici focuses on identifying each person's unique risk factors and creating highly personalized strategies based on genetics, biomarkers, and lifestyle.

Brad and Dr. Phillips discuss why personalized medicine is replacing the "one-size-fits-all" approach to health, highlighting examples where simple lifestyle changes—guided by genetic testing—can dramatically reduce disease risk. They also explore the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare, including Medici's AI assistant, Dr. Gabby, which helps users interpret health data, evaluate supplements, scan food products, and even estimate cardiovascular risk using only a smartphone camera.

The discussion also covers the rapidly growing field of peptides. Dr. Phillips explains why peptides show tremendous promise for longevity and recovery but emphasizes that they should always be paired with proper laboratory monitoring rather than taken blindly. Brad agrees that objective testing is essential since feeling better doesn't always mean your body is responding positively.

Throughout the interview, both emphasize that true health isn't simply avoiding illness—it's building resilience through exercise, nutrition, preventative testing, personalized care, and consistent habits. Dr. Phillips also praises personal trainers as some of the most influential professionals in preventive healthcare, reinforcing Brad's philosophy that fitness coaching remains one of the best investments people over 40 can make.

Whether you're interested in biohacking, longevity, AI-powered healthcare, preventative medicine, or simply maximizing your healthspan, this episode provides an insightful look at where the future of healthcare is heading and how personalized data may soon replace generic health advice.
