Flies, lice and dirty clothes, Percy wasn't terribly keen on life fighting on the Gallipoli peninsula during WWI.

He wasn't that keen on repairing the wire between the trenches either. At least the Allies and the Turks had an agreement about that. The flies weren't so cooperative.

With his usual dry sense of humour, Percy paints the picture of survival at a basic level.

Food was an issue at Gallipoli for the British soldiers. But he wasn’t all that happy when he won the treacle lottery. He didn't know what to do with it, He'd been hoping for biscuits or chocolate or fresh fruit!

The treacle came to a very sticky end.

Percy was 100 at the time of recording but his memory was sharp and clear. . Such as of the time when he realised that bombs no longer came only from land.

The last British survivor of Gallipoli, His pithy, sometimes humorous accounts, nonetheless movingly describe the hell of Gallipoli. A no nonsense East Ender, Percy ended his days in Bunbury. He was 100 at the time of recording.

Fred was a gunner in WWI in Belgium. He vividly describes what it was like to face the constant noise and bombardment on the battlefield.

After the war, Fred continued his fine teaching career.

Captain Bob Allsop was part of the British Merchant Navy during WWII. He'd already been toughened up by the English education system. He dodged death in some of the most dangerous convoys of the war and narrowly avoided capture by the Japanese when transporting Australians to Singapore.

He greatly admired the Australians whom he met on board.

During WWII, Lancaster bomber Kim Roberts flew as part of the D Day invasion. He crashed in France,
