SERMON NOTES — September 6, 2026Series: 1 Samuel: Shadows of the King & His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 20:24-42Topic: God’s IM: Life does not consist in achieving your goals but in the fulfilling your promises and walking in convenant with Me.Notes:1. Costly Commitment (20:24-34)Matthew 6:33Luke 14:262. Peace in the Middle of Confusion (20:35-42) IMPLICATION FOR LIFE RESPONSE1. At the highest level, our commitment to Christ - our promises and our goals may coincide. Life does not consist in achieving our goals, but in fulfilling our promises except when we are seeking first Christ's kingdom and his righteousness. Oh Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end.2. Life is made up in storms. There is either one on the horizon, or we are in the midst of one, or we have just passed through one. In His grace, God offers us a peace with Himself through Jesus Christ, a peace that surpasses all understanding. Let us rest in Him for Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

SERMON NOTES – August 2, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 18:1-16Topic: You've Got A FriendAttribute: Praise Christ as Your Savior and KingGOD’S DM: “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and who gives you a Spirit that is just like his so that you might kill the jealousy that is in you and enjoy a life of true blessing.”Notes:1. The Friendship We DesireProverbs 18:24John 15:12-152. The Jealousy We HateProverbs 27:43. The Success We EnjoyIMPLICATION FOR LIFE RESPONSE:1. What a friend we have in Jesus. Do you know him as a friend who sticks closer that a brother? Do you enjoy his fellowship on a regular basis? Do you have a friend like Jonathan in your life? Are you being a friend like him to someone else? Make both of these a priority in your life.2. How is God trying to root out jealousy in your life? Are you in a difficult situation so that God might mold and make you into an instrument that can play the noblest part. Remember that God knows what he is about.3. Define success the way God defines it - knowing the Lord is with you. Recognize that God is giving you success in ways that you cannot even imagine as he works behind the scene in your life. The greatest blessing of all is Jesus with you.

Has ComeAttribute: Praise Christ as Your Savior and KingGOD’S DM: “Knowing that I have fought for you and delivered you in the past should give you confidence that I will fight for and deliver you in the present and future!”Notes: Royal S____________ (vs. 31)1 Samuel 17:26 and 29F________ verses F________ (vs. 32-37)1 Samuel 17:8-9“In young David’s mind, all the enemies of God are reduced to the same level; they are nothing but dumb beasts. Regardless of size or strength, the Lord will provide victory over all.” - Bill ArnoldBattle P______________ (vs. 38-40)IMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) Don’t let your heart fail; the King has come! He has and will deliver you! King Jesus has already entered the story, won the victory, saved His people, defeated His enemies, and secured the final outcome! He has and will deliver us. We have nothing to fear. 2) Trusting in anyone or anything other than Jesus is foolishness.Repent and turn away from all the lesser things that you are prone to believe in, hope in, and trust in. There is victory and salvation in nothing and no one other than Jesus and the cross! 3) Remember God’s past acts of faithfulness and salvation in your life. Our faith is sustained through the present trials we face by remembering God’s past acts of faithfulness to us (and other Christians). Remember and remind yourself often of God’s past acts of faithfulness and salvation.
