SERMON NOTES – January 18, 2026Series: 1st and 2nd Samuel: Shadows of the King and His KingdomText: 1 Samuel 2:1-10Topic: Hannah’s PrayerAttribute: Praise Christ as King, Judge, and SaviorGOD’S DM: “All of My works are glorious and worthy of praise, but especially the works of the coming King who will bring about the ultimate exultation of My people and judgment on My enemies!”Notes: Prayer of P______________ P______________ (vs. 1-2)Exodus 15:1-2Exodus 15:11P______________ of God’s Reversals (vs. 3-8)P______________ of a King (vs. 9-10)You must catch the logic of Hannah’s prayer. It is easy to react superficially to these opening scenes in 1 Samuel: “What’s the big deal? So Hannah has a son now - that’s nice - and that rival wife Peninnah who has kids coming out her ears has to eat crow; so now things have calmed down a bit at Elkanah’s flat in Ramathaim-zophim, wherever that is.” No. This is no piddly affair - this is the manifestation of the way Yahweh rules and will bring his kingdom. Hannah’s relief is a sample of the way Yahweh works and of the way he will work when he brings his kingdom in fullness. The saving help Yahweh gave Hannah is a foretaste, a small scale-model demonstration of how Yahweh will do it when he does it in grand style. - Dale Ralph DavisIMPLICATIONS FOR LIFE:1) Jesus Christ is the Judge and King of this world!Jesus, God’s Judge and King, is full of grace, mercy, life, and salvation! He will be exalted, and you can be exalted in Him!2) There is a great reversal coming! One day, in God’s perfect timing, Jesus will bring about a great, complete, and perfect reversal, just as He has promised! 3) Pray and Sing! The lives of God’s people should be filled with prayer and singing to our God, King, and Savior! Music and word rights reserved. CCLI License

Samuel and the temporary salvation and deliverance he brings (for Hannah and for Israel) are meant to point us ahead and prove to us that God can and will send the Savior and Deliverer His people need! 2) God is there; He does care; He is at work; and He can be trusted in even the most helpless, hopeless, and heartbreaking of circumstances. Know, rest, and walk confidently in the fact that because of Jesus and His work for you, God loves you, cares for you, is at work for your good, and can be trusted with all things!3) God most often works through the ordinary lives of His people who are living faithfully.God can, and He does, work extraordinarily through ordinary people living ordinary lives of faith and faithfulness!
