Eastern States 100 Mile Finisher- Multiple 100 Mile and Ultra Race Winner with a bunch this year already.

Im very excited how this conversation went. I promise you will be as well. Wanted to actually reach out a couple months ago to Alec when he won both Mohican 100 and then Eagle Up 100 Ultra a week later, yes you read that right 2 weeks in a row he won a 100 mile race. Though im glad I waited for him to finish Eastern States 100. We start off talking about how he got into running after getting out of the Marines, then transitioned into some running philosophy, before hitting Eastern States 100. The way he talked about Eastern is really intriguing, insightful and passion filled. Really good discussion on how race went, how switched positions, along with some really cool stories what he encountered along the trail (rattlesnakes).

We easily could have gone on for hours and talked about his other race accomplishments this year. At some point id like to hear the comparison between some of his dofferent 100 mile races.

We ended with some running advice for all those in the sport from the beginners to the elite.

Wanted to sit down with my friend Andrew and talk with him about his Ironstone 100k Finish. What he did to prepare, how the race went and what he thought of it.

Also touched on some of the other races hes done. He recently participated in the Run With The Deer Flies 15k taking 1st Overall. Was good catching up with him amd getting. His perspective on his Ironstone performance.

2nd race on the day. Finished 2nd overall 1st masters. Felt abnormally good. So went with it. Didnt plan to be out in front. But found myself in 2nd with a tenth or two. 1st had 5-10 second lead that stayed that way till 1.5 in. Reeled him in slowly. Mile 2ish when hit the actual trailmi was right behind him. I took the lead. Till 4.3. I lost it within last .1. 3rd 2 miles in was at least 30 seconds behind. And i looked back few time and saw noone. But after i passed guy who was in 1st, the guy who did win must of really turned it on . I looked back few times and saw noone buy the 1 i past to take over 1st. Out of nowhere winner past me within last .1 i felt his emergy as passed me amd there was 0 things i could do about it at the time there was no time left to kick it was over. It was very interesting and for soem reaosn didnt upset me. Of course he was a college runner so i had no real shot anyhow. But yea i did way better then expected. Had change a bunch on mp3 player to stay grooving. It worked. Also felt that race in morning didnt affect me at all for this one. I recovered maverlously.

Ehh finished 2nd. But happy wuth it. Time is decpetive. 19:26.3 official time. The course though is hard and slows you down so i would absolutely say this would be a 18 or under 5k performance on a flat course. This had 400 feet both up and down. There was two coal pile climbs that you had actually climb up. Part of the draw as to why i went. Plus hills all over and some grvael road. I didnt know the course, if i did i could have ran it faster. Wasnt sure where the hill where or turns wwre so was at a disadvantage. We were at 510 or lower for 1st 3 mins and it was insane being sub 5 so early. Had 2 in front of me. Passed one of them like mile 2. I was literally on 1st's heels on the coal hill. Race was any longer i would have got him and i actually should have got him. Just wasnt sure what was left and where i needed to kick so i never kicked. I was still right on his heels. But lost and pulled back last few second so gap in time was bigger then it actually was. I did hang back early and let the two ahead lead me where to go since it had no markings. Just a few volunteers. So if i was in lead id been lost to where to go. Little upset i lost it but, fine with it because i had fun and felt great. Knowing i didnt kick and was in it till last 10 yards was promising on such a hard 5k course. Had to be top 3 harddest 5k ive done.
