Dennis Gray is a family practice physician who has served in Louisville for over 45 years, but has also made huge impacts overseas in Katosi Village, Uganda and right here at Christ Church United Methodist as current chair of our Outreach & Justice Committee. He says at one point in the interview that "gratitude is the attitude," and it's certainly hard not to feel that way when listening to the stories he has to tell.

Learn more about our Outreach & Justice Committee at ccum.net/everyneighbor, and stay tuned for the Fall 2026 Connections magazine issue featuring Dennis's story, coming soon at ccum.net/connections!

Delaney Carroll has a unique story of growing up in a Texas church and moving to Kentucky at age 17 to help care for her grandfather Nelson Knight, a longtime member of Christ Church who passed in May of this year. Since moving here with her brother, she has become a leader of the Dwell young adult class and involved in a great number of other ministries. We're so thankful that she took some time to chat with us about her journey. Visit ccum.net/classes to learn more about Dwell, or join them on Sunday mornings at 10 am!

Hear two stories from Frances Meadows, who turns 106 years old today (August 14th, 2026)! Frances and her family joined Christ Church before ground was broken on Brownsboro Road in 1956 -- her husband Clyde, her children, and her mother joined on Easter Sunday during a service in Garnett Hall on the campus of the Masonic Homes. Frances was involved for many years with the United Methodist Women, serving as vice-president of the Louisville conference, leading committees, and doing volunteer work on behalf of Wesley House.

We'd like to thank Frances for sharing her stories with our church historian Mark Ray, and wish her a very happy 106th birthday!

Leah Bennett is a lover of food, a dedicated church-goer, and a volunteer with Open Door Ministries in Louisville, which among other things provides a free lunches throughout the week at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church. You’ll hear Leah say that one of her mottos is to be bold and courageous, which I think you will definitely see as a theme of her life as you listen to our interview today. I learned so much from her just in a short time – we talk about her early life growing up on a farm and around the making and serving of food, how she found Christ Church and Open Door Ministries, and of course, how she listens and responds to God’s call in her life. I really enjoyed this conversation, and I think you will too, so let’s tune in together as we hear the story of Christ Church, one person at a time.

Mark Ray has been a member of Christ Church for 32 years. He is a professional writer and editor, and has written for organizations such as Scouting America, Humana, The United Methodist Church, and many more as a freelance writer. He is also one of the most dedicated volunteers you will find here at Christ Church, serving with our youth ministries and as our current church historian. In this conversation, we talk about his early spiritual life growing up in the Episcopal church, how he came to choose Christ Church as his home, his current work as church historian, and, maybe most importantly, how he understands the process of listening to God’s call in his life. Mark has some incredible stories and great insights, so let’s tune in together as we hear the story of Christ Church, one person at a time.

Welcome to One Person at a Time, a podcast from Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville, KY, where our mission is becoming living proof of God’s love, one person at a time.

Whether in a pew on Sunday morning, at one of our Bridge campuses throughout the week, serving here at 4614 Brownsboro Road, or serving with one of our ministry partners, every person lives in to this mission differently. This is a podcast that dives into the individual lives lived out in our community, as we attempt to find out exactly how each person listens and respond to God’s call.
