Can something inspired by olive oil help fight one of the deadliest brain cancers? In this episode, we explore the groundbreaking Phase 1/2A clinical trial of 2-OHOA, a lab-made version of a natural fat molecule found in olive oil. This brain-penetrating lipid is designed to change the way cancer cell membranes work, helping to slow down or even stop tumor growth.
The study involved 54 patients with advanced cancers, many of them with recurrent glioma or glioblastoma—tumors that are often resistant to existing treatments. The results are promising: treatment was generally well tolerated, and around 1 in 4 patients saw their disease stabilize or improve. In one remarkable case, a patient’s cancer stopped growing for over 2.5 years.
