Rob York is the head of the archery division at the Oklahoma City Gun Club and fresh off a fantastic weekend of State Championship action we set down to recap a wonderful weekend. Oklahoma ASA had 246 QUALIFIED shooters on the range this past weekend and Rob took out all the stops to make sure each and every one of them was treated like the guest of honor. We swap stories and discuss feedback from the most hectic weekend in recent memory and look forward to 2027 and things to improve.

The 5th Annual Get Western Challenge is scheduled for Aug 9th is coming back to Hutchinson, KS. Registration opens at 7:00am and Shooter meeting at 8:00am. Heats start on the range at 8:30am! This event is designed to test your physicality and prepare you for western hunting scenarios. Archers can expect to walk between 2.25 and 3.5 miles with various obstacles designed to test your mettle with a bow in hand. Registration is $50 and they are giving away a fantastic selection of prizes. Cash payouts for 1st through 3rd place and items from elk calls, yeti coolers, SHOT 3Dx day passes and everything else you need to conquer the mountain. There is only 1 class of competitors but if we have 5 women in attendance there will be a special prize drawing amongst the ladies. We encourage archers of all skill levels to come try their hand at the one of a kind archery event. Scores are based on shot placement and course completion time. Roger Hayes has been doing archery a long time. He is the guy in charge of Wagoner archery range and they have a very special event happening this SATURDAY only, July 18, 2026 from 8-12 trickle Start. The Jerry Cole Memorial is a great 3D shoot that always has a great turnout. Jerry was a game ranger in Oklahoma and loved to bowhunt. This year is the 27th annual memorial tournament in his honor. Show up and shoot a round with a whole flock of game wardens and meet the green jeans in charge of conserving and preserving wildlife in Oklahoma on the front lines!
