  • Arnold Paole: The Case That Made Vampires Go Viral In Serbia
    2026/10/08

Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Kara has a vampiric tale just in time for spooky season.

A dead farmer falls off a wagon, breaks his neck, and gets buried like anyone else. Then the village starts saying he’s back at night, choking people in their sleep and leaving a trail of sudden deaths. We’re heading to 1720s Serbia on the Habsburg military frontier, where fear travels fast, folklore runs deep, and the modern idea of the “vampire” hasn’t been sanitized into pop culture yet.

We tell the story of Arnold Paole, a former border militia fighter who insists he survived an attack by a Slavic vampire and tried to cleanse himself with a grim ritual involving grave soil and corpse blood. When villagers demand an exhumation, what they claim to see sets off the classic anti-vampire response: staking, decapitation, burning, and ashes dumped into the river. Years later, another wave of deaths forces the Austrian government to send military doctors to investigate, leading to a report titled Visum et Repertum that spreads across Europe and ignites Enlightenment-era debate.

Come along for the ride, and try not to lose any sleep!

  • The Bell Witch: When a Legend Outlives the Evidence
    2026/09/24

Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Zach is telling a 200 year old legend

We said “Bell Witch” and our audio immediately stopped recording. Coincidence or the most on brand technical glitch we’ve ever had? Either way, we’re finally tackling one of the most famous American ghost legends: the Bell Witch haunting of Adams, Tennessee, and why the story still refuses to settle into one clean version.

We walk through the earliest encounters on the Bell property in 1817, when John Bell and his family report strange animals, a mysterious girl in green, and then the classic escalation inside the house: scratching, knocking, dragging sounds, shaking beds, and the kind of physical attacks that make you wonder how anyone slept at all. Then the haunting turns intelligent. The noises become whispers, and the whispers become a clear woman’s voice that answers questions and eventually claims to be “Old Kate Batts’ witch,” pulling a real neighbor into the legend and raising all kinds of uncomfortable questions about blame, reputation, and small-town fallout.

Subscribe for more creepy history and paranormal deep dives, share this with the friend who loves haunted places, and leave us a review with your Bell Witch take. What do you think “Kate” really was?

  • British Premonitions Bureau: John Barker's Early Warning System
    2026/09/10

Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Kara is giving us glimpses of the future from the past!

A doctor reads other people’s nightmares for a living and starts wondering if they’re not just nightmares. We’re talking about a real, short-lived experiment from 1960s Britain: the British Premonitions Bureau, a project that tried to time-stamp dreams and visions before disasters happened and treat them like evidence instead of folklore. If you love paranormal history, psychical research, and true stories that sit on the edge of science, this one gets under your skin fast.

We start with psychiatrist Dr. John Barker at Shelton Hospital in Shropshire and his obsession with a terrifying idea tied to “voodoo death” and extreme stress: can fear shut the body down, and could a premonition trigger that collapse? Then we head straight into the shadow of the Aberfan disaster, where reports of foreboding, strange luck, and chilling precognitive dreams raise the question Barker can’t drop: coincidence, memory tricks after trauma, or something real in the human mind.

If you’ve ever had a dream that later felt uncomfortably true, we want to hear it. Subscribe for more strange history, share this with your favorite oddball, and leave us a review so more listeners can find the shop.
