    In Episode 400 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger sail off the coast of Great Wass Island, Maine, searching for a ghostly dog who barks and howls warnings at passing ships. This dog was said to be the lone survivor of a tragic shipwreck in the mid-1800s. But this was not the first, nor the last ship to founder in these dangerous waters.

    Welcome to New England Legends From the Vault – FtV Episode 118 – Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger stroll the beaches of Maine’s Vinalhaven Island in Penobscot Bay reminiscing about the circus, and exploring the history and wreck of the Royal Tar—one of New England’s worst maritime disasters. In October of 1836, 32 people perished along with a menagerie of animals from the Burgess and Dexter’s Zoological Institute in an event that still haunts the coast of Maine. Joining us for After the Legend is author Jane Parks Gardner, who just released her latest book, The Wreck of the Circus Ship Royal Tar: Tragedy in Penobscot Bay.     In Episode 399 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger visit Potter Place in Andover, New Hampshire, to see the final resting place of America’s first professional magician. Richard Potter died in 1835, but not before he grew rich and famous from his magic act. He sold out shows in both the north and south, which was all the more impressive considering he was also a Black man. For his final trick… Potter isn’t buried where he was originally placed in the ground.
