Did you know you inherit a nervous system shaped by the generations before you? Most of us don’t. Without realizing it, we end up repeating patterns, carrying silence, and holding burdens that were never ours to carry.

The NeuroHeir℠ Podcast is for cycle breakers…young adults, parents, and those in helping roles like teachers, coaches, healers, and therapists…who are ready to understand their nervous system through a generational lens, release what no longer serves, and consciously create the legacy they want to pass on.

This podcast will answer questions such as:

- Why does inherited trauma affect my body, not just my mind?

- How do I regulate my nervous system when I feel anxious, overwhelmed, or shut down?

- What does it really mean to “break cycles” without disowning my family?

- How can I help my kids feel safe and regulated when I’m still learning this myself

- What somatic practices can I use in real time to reset and reconnect?

Inside each episode, you’ll find nervous system education explained through a generational lens, somatic practices you can use right away (including my signature 4N framework: Notice, Name, Nurture, Navigate), research on generational trauma and resilience, and real-life stories through guest conversations and live coaching.

I’m Leanna Hunt, an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor and certified performance coach trained in somatic-based modalities. I use these approaches every day to help clients regulate their nervous systems, release inherited patterns, and reconnect with who they really are.

Subscribe today and take your first step toward becoming a NeuroHeir℠, because you may not have chosen what you inherited, but you can choose what comes next.

  • 50. 50 Tiny Joys: A Simple Nervous System Practice
    2026/09/23

What if healing isn’t just about working through what’s hard but also learning to actually notice what’s good?

In this 50th episode of the NeuroHeir Podcast, Leanna invites you into the 50 Tiny Joys Experiment: a simple practice for noticing the small moments of joy that can easily get overlooked when your nervous system is used to scanning for what’s wrong, what needs fixing, or what might need your attention.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • Why our nervous systems can become practiced at noticing what’s wrong
    • How to acknowledge hard things without overlooking the good
    • Why allowing yourself to experience joy can be an act of self-compassion
    • The difference between orienting to the good and toxic positivity
    • How the JOY practice can help you notice more of what’s happening around you
    • Why you still have some choice over what you give your attention to, even when you can’t control what happens
    • How to start your own 50 Tiny Joys Experiment

Because maybe healing isn’t only about asking, “What’s wrong and what do I need to work on next?”

Maybe it’s also learning to ask:

“What’s good right now and can I let that count, too?”

  • 49. Understanding Trauma Responses: The SAFE Framework for Healing Old Patterns
    2026/09/16

Have you ever found yourself reacting to something and wondering, Why does this feel so much bigger than the moment?

Maybe your partner says something that suddenly feels deeply personal, someone is disappointed in you, or you feel criticized and before you know it, your body is in full protection mode. In this episode of the NeuroHeir Podcast, Leanna explores why old patterns can show up in present-day moments and how your nervous system may be responding to experiences that never fully had the chance to resolve.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why your reactions can sometimes feel bigger than the present moment
    • How your nervous system develops protective patterns over time
    • Why beliefs like “I'm not enough” or “my needs are a problem” may have originally served as protection
    • What the SAFE framework stands for: Safety, Advocacy, Freedom to Choose, and Enoughness
    • How to begin offering yourself what you may not have had access to earlier in life
    • Why you don't have to know exactly where a feeling came from to respond to yourself differently
    • How curiosity and self-compassion can help you build more capacity when old patterns show up

Because you can't go back and change what happened then but today, you can offer yourself safety, advocacy, choices, and love without requiring yourself to earn it.

  • 48. The Myth of Being Fully Healed: How to Live and Parent Differently Now
    2026/09/09

What if healing isn’t about becoming a perfectly regulated, securely attached version of yourself who never gets triggered again? What if it’s actually about building more capacity for the moments when life activates you—and learning that you can choose what comes next? In this episode, we’re breaking down the idea that you have to “finish healing” before you can start living, parenting differently, building healthy relationships, or creating the life you want.

Inside this episode, we explore the HEAL framework and what it really looks like to heal while still fully participating in your life. Because you can be a work in progress and still experience joy, connection, growth, and meaningful change.

    • H — Honor what helped you survive: Get curious about the patterns that once protected you instead of shaming yourself for having them.
    • E — Expand your capacity: Learn to create a little more space between being activated and reacting automatically.
    • A — Allow repair: Understand that healthy relationships still have rupture—and that repair is where so much growth happens.
    • L — Live while you’re healing: Stop waiting for some perfectly healed future version of yourself before allowing yourself to experience life now.
    • Embrace the power of “and”—you can be healing and happy, triggered and growing, anxious and still living fully.
    • Remember that you don’t have to heal everything first to break cycles and choose what you pass forward.
