  • 10 - Supporting Ukraine Through Hardship: Alexey's Journey
    2023/11/01

In this episode of the Neir's Tavern Community Leaders Show, we talk with Alexey Orishchenko, Director of Global Spirits, a major international alcohol company.

Alexey faced a tough situation when the Ukrainian-Russian war broke out. His company suffered heavy losses, and his family in Ukraine when the conflict started.

The war damaged their main vodka factory, costing millions and halting production. Despite this, the workers turned part of the factory into a shelter for locals.

Alex’s company donated one dollar from each bottle sold to support Ukraine, even though it meant stopping sales in Russia. This decision significantly impacted their profits.

He truly appreciates the support the United States provided through the U4U program and community efforts like Neir's Tavern's fundraising and donations.

Alex's story shows the importance of community support during tough times. It's a reminder of the power of unity and compassion. Tune in to hear this inspiring tale of resilience and generosity.

This show is sponsored by the Neir's Tavern Ambassadors and recorded in front of a live audience in Queens, NY, at legendary Neir's Tavern, where the movie Goodfellas was shot.

    2023/10/04

Join us as we chat with Vance Barbour, an advocate for Woodhaven, as he shares his story.

Vance Barbour, not originally from Woodhaven, became involved in the community by attending local meetings and asking questions. Working on multiple projects, he helped residents avoid illegal parking scams, had signs that were neighborhood eyesores removed, and more.

Beyond his community work, Vance has an artistic side, with a background in music; his wife, Christine, is an acclaimed poet. He's also passionate about genealogy and discovered a personal connection to Martin Luther King, highlighting our interconnectedness.

What sets Vance apart is his ability to learn from experiences. He emphasizes asking questions, listening, and being open to learning. Vance's journey from a small yard sale to an annual event, “The Great Yard Sale of Woodhaven”, comprising 86 households, demonstrates the power of community collaboration.

Vance Barbour's story is a testament to community strength. You don't need to be a native to make a positive impact. Join us in celebrating Vance's dedication to Woodhaven on the Neir's Tavern Community Leaders Show.
